I've got a single 10" Alpine Type-R SWR-1042D sub that I will be placing in a strut bar box.
Any recommendations for a reasonably priced amp to push just this sub with decent quality? Price is an issue. Can I get away with something <$200? I've read just about every thread in this forum but I'm afraid I just don't know much (anything) about amps.
Thanks in advance!!

Have a look at the JL Audio e1200 - that's a cheap 200 watt mono amp for $170 or so.
I like the Zapco stuff too - the I-250 will make you 200 watts when bridged and runs $140 or so.

Im going with 2 type S's alpine with the under strut box. Ive got an alpine HU and MB quart 6 1/2's with 3/4 tweets. Im powering mine 6 1/2's with the Alpine MRV345 (125wx4) and powering the S's with the MRD-M605 Mono sub (700w x 1). Found these at www.SJGreatDeals.com out of Saint Lewis, OH, both for 521.23 shipped. Also you can find these or the other alpine monosub on ebay for $200-$250. Let us know. Would like to see pics when your install is completed..

the type-r u have is the 2005 version which runs 500w rms
those amp with 200w or 300w won't do it!!!
u need at least 400w, the best is 500w @2ohm
so u can look at alpine mrd-m501 or the new one mrd-m605, or JL500/1
but they are @ double ur price range

Yeah supsup, you're right. The model I have needs a lot of juice.
I found a new Audiobahn 400 RMS @ 4 ohm on clearance at a local shop. $179 (and no tax here in Oregon
). It's this one.
After doing some research I think it'll work great given my budget. And if it doesn't, $179 won't hurt my wallet much. I'm not excited about the brand but for the money it's a good deal.
Thanks for all the advice. I'll post pics once I get everything installed. Can't wait!
