Default strange 9835 alpine issue

I noticed since like january that my 9835 alpine HU isnt really that loud, my JL 300/2 powering my MBQuart PCE216's is set at around 35-40% on the gain and even when i turn the volume up all the way im not getting it as loud as i want. to some people this may be loud but to me im used to a certain loudness. I have blown speakers in the past and hence the reason I wouldnt turn the JL amp past 40-50% anyway. I got the amp tuned with my friend who knows his **** and im not gonna touch the gains on it because ive blown speakers having it up like 60-70% before. Anyways I found a run around for this problem that I use for now, I use my Clarion DVD player that is in the dash right below the 9835 as my cd player and set the 9835 on aux all the time now. The clarion plays the cds louder but I notice that the 9835 when i get to 30 on volume, if i turn it up from 30-35 it doesnt get louder. Like 30 is the loudest it wants to play at and after that i dont notice a volume slope up. Have any of you had any issues with the 9835 not playing a volume as loud as you would want or this issue with the head unit not really turning UP after 30 or so? Any advice (id rather not use the dvd player as my cd player being there are no controls on the faceplate and I am always using my remote)?

thanks

I had that head unit and didnt have any problems with it. There is something wrong with it if you have to turn the volume to 30-35. Now i got the 9855 and love it. My volume never get above 20 unless i want ringing inmy ear.

I dont remember off hand. i think my gain is set at around NOM. bass Eq is around +5 and my Lp FIlter at around 55hz for my sub amp. but i'll look tonight when i get home from work.

Here is what i did to adjust my gain on my amps. I copy cliped this from the Alpine MRP-350 Manual

Set the MRP-M350 input gain to the minimum (4V)
position. Using a dynamic CD as a source, increase
the head unit volume until the output distorts. Then,
reduce the volume 1 step (or until the output is no
longer distorted). Now, increase the amplifier gain
until the sound from the speakers becomes distorted.
Reduce the gain slightly so the sound is no longer
distorted to achieve the optimum gain setting.

I havent blown a speaker yet since i been in car audio systems since the 90's
