Well allot of it depends on how much your budget can handle, i personally didnt wanna spend 1k on subs, 1k on amps, etc. So i ended up getting just one single 10" subwoofer, its a mean bad *** one that can handle 500watts but for me, it was the best decision. What amps youll need depends on how many subs your gonna need to power, and what other compenents need power as well.

WIth my system since i have 1 sub and component speakers that need power, i am gong to go with a 500/1 (for the sub) 1channel, and a 300/4 (4 the component speakers) 4channels.

So it all depends on ur budget and what you want to do.

Where ya' gonna put them.

What ya' want to do with them.

Define "ideal" - are you talking about paint peeling, competition winning, getting the old man with the 12 gauge after you loud?

Or just loud enough to blow your ear drums in 1 hour of listening?

im gonna purchase a sub box for under the strut bar in the trunk facing the rear.
i wanna put the amp in the middle of the trunk(above where the spare tire is) and maybe put like a glass over it so it looks nice. No competition just want it to look nice and clean when I open the trunk to show other ppl and sounds good to my ear.
Im past the age of bumping bass with hip hop and making my car vibrate. Just good quality system for me.

gqnam thats pretty much what im doing

my installer looked at fitting two smaller 10s under the strut brace, but the volume isnt optimal for 2, so instead we're going for one larger 10, an Alpine Type X, and will be glassing the back of the box so that u can see the voice coil, and then mount my 3amps under the floor. Should look pretty clean, but they want my car for 3-4 weeks

i have all the gear ready to go, deck, speakers, amps, etc just dont want to lose my car for a month just yet, such a drainer
