Default Pioneer AVIC-D1

I am looking for an aftermarket Navigation system for my Z. I have been looking at the Pioneer AVIC-D1. I would prefer a unit hat uses the cubby, but this unit looks like a great alternative, since I am not happy with the Factory Bose that came with my 35th Anniversary Silverstone. Will this unit fit in the Z, or is there a better unit out there than this one? Will this work with factory speakers and is there another Bose amp I need to be concerned with?

Thanks Mikey! Do you have any pic's of your install? Also, I was told there was a bose amp somewhere in the car besides the HU. Is that true, and if so, did you have to do anything with that?

The Bloze amp in in the trunk on the driver's side. The wires from the headend feed it with pre-amp level signals. If you run speaker levels into it you'll 'splode it into a fireball of 'trons. Just kidding but it isn't going to work.

You'll have to bypass it or run your own cables.

Thanks for the info Paul350Z. I love your description of the consequence of not bypassing this amp (("fireball of trons"). That's great, and thanks for the advice. Also, I did read through all the threads of your N2 install. Thanks a fantastic setup although I am not a fan of the flip out screen or single din install. I am looking at the AVIC-D1 to avoid that since I prefer a double din install. Only problem is it won't play DVD's. Thanks again!
