Backup Camera installed

Backup Camera installed
I put my Pioneer AVIC N2 in a couple of weeks ago and my e-bay $37 backup camera arrived last week. I had tried a couple of normal cameras but my brain has been calibrated by 30 years of driving to see "backwards" when using the rear view mirror. So I went with the e-bay camera that scans things backwards.
I had already run the video cable from the AVIC N2's brain back behind the speakers so I just had to run the power. I tapped into the antenna amplifier figuring it wouldn't hurt to steal 1/4 of a watt's worth of power that the camera draws.
I ran the cable out the big 2" knock out just behind the license plate and though square holes in the bumper material under the plate. I'm getting a custom license plate so I didn't bother even seeing what a hole in it would look like. I used a bit of metal to create a plate that double sided tapes to the back of the plate. I dremeled out little holes in that plate to use the camera's mounting screws to lock it down. A quick bend downwards a bit and it's looking good.
Taken about six feet away you can see the camera barely.
I mounted the camera between the rear hatch release button and the license plate lamps.
I've got to focus the thing a bit in this picture but you can get the idea of the view. This is a 90 something degree lens and I've got to check it out as I might replace it with something closer to 150 degrees or more.
The car is likely to not be on the road for the next couple of weekends as I'm building an amplifier rack and installing a couple of Infinity amplifiers in the subwoofer area.

oh, cool.
do you think that one will work with Eclipse AVN5435 too?
I want one but Eclispe camera cost 200 on ebay. Can't afford it.
If that camera works with mine, I'll do the same thing.
Looks good, thanks for sharing!

The first wire is the video with the normal yellow RCA connector on it. To get the wire though the rubber gasket in the dead center of the back of the car (behind the license plate) I had to cut the connector off. I solidered a female RCA connector on the wire once it was through the gasket. Then I ran a normal video cable from that female connector up along the passenger's side of the car to the "brain" which I have mounted under the passenger's seat. There's a jack there waiting.
The second wire is for the power. The camera draws next to nothing as far as current so I just ran the wire to the driver's side and tapped into the power for the antenna amplifier that's mounted just next to the antenna. The power there is controlled with the ignition key. There's battery power down at the Bose amplifier but I wanted the camera to go off with the key.
Once done you have to go into the AVIC's hardware set up and click on a button to let the system know that it's got a back up camera. Now every time I put it into reverse the display switches to rear view. There's also a navigation setting where you can get a split screen with the map on one side and the camera on the other ... so you can watch the expression on the face of the Honda S2000 driver you just smoked!
