Aftermarket Navigation
What do y'all have for aftermarket navigation? Looking at one of the Pioneer systems. The one that plays CD/DVD/etc.
Thoughts?
Thanks.

I have the Pioneer AVIC-N2, and I like it a lot.
Everything about it is great, except that you can't view the DVD
while the car is moving (I'm sure there's bypass for it tho)
It's a bit pricy for being top-of-the-line Pioneer DVD/NAVI unit, but I think
it's well worth the money. Plus the prices have come down a lot I believe.
For me I got it for real cheap so it was no brainer.
There's also AVIC-D1, which is NOT a flip out type...it's built-on screen.
I much prefer N2 to D1.
Another popular choice seem to be Kenwood P-NAV7017.
It's built-on screen like the D1. I've seen a lot of people have it on their car.
Some units from Alpine and Eclipse should be good too.
But I rreally thing the N2 is a damn good unit.

I have the AVIC N2 too and like it.
I put a second video screen in the dash cubby hole so I can watch movies while driving actually I put it in there so I could watch the output of a camera I plan on mounting in the front license plate.
Kills a few birds with one stone. First and most practical it acts as a low view so I don't run into any of those parking lot blocks ... I'm still not "good" parking this thing after 1400 miles of driving.
Second I think it might be "neat" looking at the road going by fast that low.
And the third worthless reason I want a camera in my front license plate is to give me a reason to keep the front plate on my car more often!
The N2 plays MP3's so I get +120 songs (I like long stuff) on one CD-R disk. There's a built-in memory cashe for the navigation disk that will hold a nice 12 mile something square block of data around any point you want when you eject the disk.
It does play DVD's when the car isn't moving and the parking brake is on - I find that the 36" Wega screen in the living room has a better picture and the Yamaha/Nakamichi/Infinity Dolby 5.1 system there is better sounding too so I don't watch a whole lot of movies in my car.
The built-in amplifier at 22 W/channel x4 isn't really a slacker but I added amps anyways. The headend is pretty flexible with the tone controls with simple bass/trebble, an adjustable loudness control, and a three band parametric equalizer plus several factory tone setttings.
The navigation system in use is pretty good - different but at least as accurate as my Garmin i3600 PDA which I carry. The N2 has a voice navigation as well as voice input as an option.
It's got plenty of external ports including one for any Pioneer IP equipment like a 6- or 12-disc CD player. It also has conventional RCA A/V inputs which I used for my iPod as I haven't seen a display and navigation that matches Apple's quality. Mainly I just have the thing play playlists or do random rather than searching for a specific song while driving
The menu background can be customized so I have the typical naked Japanese models on mine.
