anyone tried to contact valentine about this issue?
i think its serious (or very annoying) issue and it will go worst since so many cars come with auto distance cruise controls.

Red neon is occasionally used for the CHMSL (Center High Mounted Stop Lamp) on new cars. We know of these models: GM Trailblazer and Envoy, the Lincoln Mk VIII and the latest BMW 3-series convertible.

These lights use a neon-plasma light source. The red lens allows red visible light to pass, and also invisible energy near infrared. The source is powered by a pulsating voltage on a frequency that happens to be similar to the repetition rate of legitimate laser-gun pulse trains. In other words, the CHMSLs have an invisible energy leakage that’s nearly identical to the beam used by traffic laser. If we suppress the interference, we’re likely to damage laser sensitivity.

Another source of alarms: a few new cars have cruise controls that use laser to measure distance to the car ahead. This feature is available on the Lexus LS430, Infiniti FX35 and FX45. This, of course, is real laser, not a false alarm.

Fact: The Valentine One's laser detection is superior to all other radar/laser detectors.

Here is a forum that Mike Valentine (W8MM) is a member of and what he has to say about the V1:

It depends on where you mount the V1. If you suction-cup it to the windshield like most folks, you shouldn't have a problem since the light from the nav screen won't hit the V1. (The V1 would be directly above the screen in that configuration.) However, I mounted my V1 along the rear ceiling of the car (next to the rear window using one of those roof-liner snaps to mount it), so it happens to be in direct line-of-sight of the nav screen. This means the light from the nav screen directly hits the V1.

Oddly enough, it's only a problem at night. During the day (when the sun is out) the light from the screen doesn't affect the V1. The same is true for the SUV brake lights. My detector doesn't go off when those lights hit me during the day. Must have something to do with the brightness of the sunlight causing enough interference with the laser frequencies to make the detector get confused and not pick them up. I'd imagine that would mean that laser detection in general must not be as good on a bright day as it would be at night.

I have the Escort Solo2 and it does it as well mostly on I95, think it might be those huge traffic info signs.

Yup, some of those big signs use neon backlights. (Depending on the type of sign.) The old school signs made up of lots of little light bulbs won't do it (since those are just regular incandescent lights), but I've seen newer, fancy road signs using LCDs with backlights. Lots of the fancy billboards in bigger cities starting to use them, too. Those suckers are *bright*, and will often set off my V1.

Default V1 Laser warning

I have heard that the new FX has a semi-nuclear hybrid component to the engine that is causing these false alerts. Has anyone else heard about this?

ok. I just finished installing stealth V1 today.
I only have bad news.

1. I connect external display unit via my other phone cable and it doesn't work (external display doesn't light up and main unit still lights up and shows error sign). and I switch back to cable came with V1 and it works. (display on the external unit and no display on the main unit). I thought its just same phone cable.. isn't it?

2. I have Eclispe AVN5435. My V1 go crazy with "L" sign and I blocked AVN screen with my hands then it goes ok... Whatsup with that?

Ok. I just talked to Mike @ Valentine One (I don't know he is the owner or not).
I asked 3 questions:

1. About Color LCD (Nav unit, AVN5435 etc.): Mike said, V1 is very sensitive on the color LCD. No fix. Just reposition V1 is only way.

2. about high end cars active cruise control: So far no plan to fix that issue. Those laser is very simular (if its not the same type of cops use). so there is no plan for fix.

BUT if you live in the place the cops don't use laser much, you can disable "Laser" via user programming:
http://valentine1.com/lab/MikesLabRpt3.asp

3. About phone cable, must use phone cable that has 4 cables inside. NOT 2. In order to run power, sound, light etc, it requires 4 cables inside of the phone cable. So if anyone planning to use own phone cable, make sure it has 4. and TEST the cable before you spend time and effort to take all the interior panels off.

Hope this helps some folks like me.

Heres a good shoot out from motor trend testing all the new detectors and jammers.
