Default Tuning new system

Well, I finished my install yesterday. As soon as I get a chance I'll start hosting pictures this week hopefully. In the meantime I am looking into tuning it since I've got a 5 band parametric EQ. Anyone used this before or anything else free or better, etc?

It looks like it's got a 14 day trial. I have to check frequency response on my sound card. Plus get a microphone I guess. Any at Radio Shack have about a 60Hz to 20,000Hz range so I guess that they would do.
Any comments?

Using pink or white noise is the best way to set your equalizer - a five band is pretty limited but better than nothing. If your headend has a parametric equalizer or tone control start with it centered. Do the frequency sweep with the equalizer and then tweak the headend's controls.

You'll be surprised at the difference once the system is properly balanced. I've been wanting to buy a software based spectrum analyzer and that's a pretty neat little set up.

Do not get a mic at Radio Shack. Follow the link and this should answer all your questions. The software you are looking at looks good also. I am using the set up in the link and works great.http://www.businessnone.com/projects/cheaprta/

Default other plans

Well, I wasn't set on spending any more money so I think my first shot at tuning will just be some tones and and SPL meter. I can borrow the meter from work and found a couple of useful test tone sites.

more steps of tones than you could ever need between 10Hz and 300Hz

1st download on this site - wavefile generator can do 20Hz-20kHZ at 1/12 ocatve intervals plus you can burn a file at any specific frequency you want for however many seconds you want.

My latest posts are crossing over. I played with the free stuff I got and a SPL meter from work.
I had mixed results. The software I got was very effective at evalutaing response but once I tuned it and it sounded better I actually hated it on the road. See here:
