WOOHOO...The wife FINALLY gave me the go ahead to upgrade the sound system. The depth of knowledge I've seen in this forum based on all of the previous threads is truely astounding, so I thought I'd get your opinions before I start.
Here's what I'm working with:
'05 Touring AT
Bose audio
Factory Nav
and give or take $2,000 to play with...
Goal: More SQ than SPL
Plans:
HU - Factory
Speakers - Fronts: new 6.5" front components; Rears: not bothering with the rears based on other posts
Subs - 2 10" DVCs in a 2 x 10" enclosure from Zenclosures
Amps - one to two amps, not sure, located in the factory sub location
Misc - I'm returning everything to stock when the lease is up
With all this being said, I could really use some help with the following questions...
Question 1:
I know I at least need line level converters, but should I go with the JL Audio Cleansweep? I'm asking because I can't remember if the Bose does the EQing at the HU or the amps.
Question 2:
Can anyone suggest a well-matched set of components and subs for a nice full range of sound? I've seen threads asking for recommendations for one or the other, but I'm hoping that there are combinations that work particularly well together.
Question 3:
Amps - How many do I need to run the front components and the subs (DVCs)? What wattage/channel configuration would you recommend for the subs?
Question 4:
Last one I swear...Can you suggest a good online site to purchase everything? Crutchfield? I refuse to buy from Circuit City or Best Buy.
If there's anything that you can add in addition to the questions above, I'd greatly appreciate it.
Thanks in advance for all of your help!!!

Yes, go with the clean sweep if you plan ok keeping that factory HU. Line level convertors cannot compare with the sound of a properly installed clean sweep.
I really like my combination of Boston Acoustic components and JL Audio Subs. The sound is very clean. Good clean, tight, solid bass. Excellent Mids and outstanding Highs.
I use a 300/4 JL audio to run my fronts and rears with the 500/1 to handle my subs, which are DVC's.
I couldn't tell you anywhere to buy this stuff online. I have a hook up here so nothing online could compare to the price I can get it for.
This is all just my opinion though as far as a combination of stereo equipment. Everyone has their own tastes and brand loyalty. I have used pretty much everything under the sun over the past 5 years and found JL audio and Boston to be great.
John
PS: If price is no object I would go with Dynaudio up front and a 12W7 sub running off of Macintosh amplifiers.

Isn't the Bloze custom equalization added to the headend? Pulling the Bose speakers out and adding anything of quality means you're going to be starting your equalization in the whole ... a deep hole.

check out edesignaudio.com. They have great sounding speakers. I have a 120v.2 and their edi 6500's running off a nine.1 and nine.2. Their subs are very sq oriented and sound comparable to JL stuff.
The components are rebranded CDT audio with minor tweeks and if you research CDT they have a great rep for awesome sounding speakers.
Their amps are nothing to write home about but they do the job well and sound good. I like their clean look the most...even though they are hidden in my cubby area.
best of all you can get all their stuff for pretty cheap. nine.2x, nine.2, 6500's, and 2 11kv.2's will run you about $816 plus shipping... http://www.edesignaudio.com/packages Leaves you a good grand for install a box and wiring.
Where in florida are you I'd be happy to give you an audition if your close to orlando.....well you'll have to wait a few weeks, I'm in the process of replacing my stolen headunit with a carputer, so nothing but stock radio and stock rear speakers for now.
