Default JL Audio question....

Difference between component speakers and mid range?

I'm just going all mid range in the rear, I was wondering if all that meant was no tweeters? Or are the mid ranges a different speaker all together?

Thanks.

The mid range driver is a speaker suited for mid frequencies.

I wouldn't really want to use JUST that in place of
factory speaker locations.

You might want to go for component setup for the door
and replace the tweeters and get a mid-bass speaker.

For the rear, I think coaxials are fine.

Thats my setup.

Yea definately do not get just mid-range anywhere! There is no point in that at all. Just get seperates all around. If money is an issue then get coaxials for the rear. But you will definately need at least 4 tweeters.

oh man, you definately do not want tweeters in the back, you want tweeters in the front, the sound should come from the front. you want ideally to have the back speakers playing just midrange, say 70-700 or so, or even just midbass. There is no need for tweeters in the back unless you want to destroy a perfectly good system.

How would that destroy the system? Granted its only a 2 seater but all cars have some sort of mid-high fill coming from the rear 2 speakers. How would upgrading then to reach higher levels destroy it? Not to mention that i guarantee if you only have 2 tweeters supplying the highs, and say 4 for mids and subs for deep end, you will blow them out. To me its just a better idea to have at least 2 tweets in front and something in the rear to help out, even some coaxials to take the strain off the main fronts.

With a 2 seater, you certainly do not one tweets in the back, you'll have the highs blasting you from behind, completely pointless. The top competiton cars do not use tweeters from behind. I do not understand how you will blow them out, that makes no sense, you will not blow any speakers out. midranges in the back, components in the front and a subsetup is all the car needs for a decent system.

A few years back i blew out a set of Boston Pros and i never played them at a distorted level. So it obviously can happen. My friend has an amazing system, and he has blown out plenty of tweeterz. It happens often.

Also, i understand that the car is small and its not necessary. But that isnt exactly what i said. I said it would be better to have some sort of high coming from the rear for fill, besides mid-bass. A good mid-range would be nice in the 350. PS i said it would be better off cuz you can tweak your system to how it sounds right. So they wouldnt be blasting in your ears. That is the whole point, get as good equipment as you can and then tweak the sound. In this case obviously set the rear speakers to cut off at a lower level than the fronts.

Speakers don't just blow out, they had to be distorting or jammed with a rediculous amount of power. If the tweeters are blowing, they are distorting too or being crossed over too low. Also, I've never blown out a speaker with the exception of one sub and thats because I turned the thing on and a cd case vibrated on to it so that was my own stupid fault.

Repeat: I do not play my music at a distorted level! And where did this assumption come from that they cant blow? I never knew speakers were invincible.

maybe you thought it wasn't distorted. It can still sound fine while being distorted. If the headunit was clipping, that can destroy the speakers. Distortion or power that is too high for the speakers can kill them. Otherwise they don't just blow by themselves unless they are defective.

Make sure there is plenty of clean power. The gain on the amp is not a volume ****, make sure it is adjusted properly to match the head unit output. You can kill speakers with 10watts if it's not clean power.

Tweeters in the rear is not necessary. It will draw the image toward the back.

Yea i understand all of that. I never touched the gain on that setup. I played it loud every now and then but i can tell the difference between clean sound and cracking or popping w/ distortion. I dont just blast my music, i listen and hear it. Who knows maybe its the amps. I had a RF pushing those pros, and i know my friend has RF's in his car. Maybe fosgate just sucks hehe. I know i like my Alpine much better anyway. I actually dont even have an amp running to my highs in my car now. All i have is an amp for the box and a Kenwood in the dash and it sounds amazing. Props to Toyota for putting in a great sterio.
