Default bose hu question

I used to own the sentra SE-R spec V w/ the rockford fosgate audio package. With this package the headunit was not internally amped, thus making it hard to put an aftermarket headunit in, because they are usually internally amped. You would have to bypass the factory amp and this caused all sorts of chaos and trouble. I was wondering if the bose system is the same. I know it has an amp because of the subwoofer. Do I need a re-wire if I buy an aftermarket hu in order to bypass the factory amp? or is there some sort of adapter I can use to bypass the aftermarket hu's internal amperage? Not sure what to do... thanks!

I actually just ran into that problem a few hours ago. The local radio shop told me that for the bose system there is an adaptor that needs to be put in. It was 100 bucks.

Its called an ohm modulating adapter since aftermarket HUs send a different ohm signal than the Bose. Crutchfield and many other places sell them for around $50. Do a search here. There is atleast one thread on this topic every week.

Walmart has the ones made by Skoche...they were on clearance over there a few months ago. SHould work fine for this purpose and from what I remember they were under $50.

That is just the harness. The modulator thing they are talking about looks like a little box thing with wires coming out of it. It was a real pain for me so I just bought some components and an amp. Much easier install.

A couple of guys with Z's and bose systems reviewed that product and said thats all they used and it worked out fine and sounds good. I can't seem to find one of those modulators, could someone provide a link?

Are my only options basically to do the modulator or to buy all new speakers and sub and amp and re-do the whole system?

I was told by best buy, not the greatest source of info, but, that you can rewire the new headunit to work with stock bose speakers with that harness you posted up.

The harness in the picture will not work for the bose HU. The wire harness only has 2 connectors while the Bose HU has 4 plugs in the back of it. You may be able to make it work somehow. But it won't be easy.

I wonder what those two guys who reviewed the product did with it. They both have z's w/ bose and used that harness. Did anyone else read the reviews?
