Forgot a tip. A credit card works great to push the cable in the cracks and under the headliner.

The $10 cable includes the remote thingy (with the shut-up button and lights), fuse, etc. Its well worth the $10 and is easily tucked in around the windshield. The remote is nice.

The remote would be unusable if you run it like I did I suspect.

My cable cost $.99.

I mounted the radar up by the mirror and have the remote down on the left below the steering wheel.
Its nice especially at night with the radar display dimmed.

Your .99 cent approach is good to know ...maybe for a second car. Although I'd probably splurge and get the remote there as well! These days whats $10 bucks!

The other reason I did it the way I did way back when this was originally posted was I was impatient, and didn't want to keep running the cord from the back of the car to the windshield. I could get a phone cord immediately.

Impatience was king, too

I used the regular cord in my GTP, and didn't find the factory cord that much of a big deal to me. It was a nice thing I suppose, but I can still reach up and hit the detectory about as quickly.

Oh, and the regular cable that comes with the detector has no fuse. Are you saying the one you get from Escort does?

The hardwire cord with remote does have a fuse.

Interesting. I guess they are afraid if you are hard wiring, you might short it out or something. I took the lighter plug in cord apart, and no fuse (I was surprised).
