I went by my local Car Toys (Car Audio Store) and was told that I can't just replace the Bose headunit with an aftermarket one. Is this true cause it sound like some BS.
Also... Has anyone just replace the stock speakers and left the Bose headunit? Did you notice a big improvement in sound quailty?

As soon as I am able, I am ripping out all the Bose (no highs, no lows, it must be......) crap in my '05 Pikes Peak Basic. It's the first 6 speaker stereo that actually hurts my ears. Unbelievable. Bose's idea of high fidelity is to take real cheap-*** speakers and do some equalization on them, you know, the sow's ear to silk purse theory. Jeez.
You can replace the stock speakers but the amps are going to have to go with them. Bose does their own thing when it comes to car audio. Radio shops hate them. It could be done but the sound quality will probably suffer. Do a search, I'm pretty sure there's a thread on it but most of us just rip it out altogether.

Looks like I'm just going to replace everything. Think I'm going to work on building the audio better than spending more time on the performance. Thanks guys!
I changed my front speakers to Infinity Reference Components and I'm using it with the Stock Bose HU. It works fine, but doesn't make too much of a difference.
It's a little bit crisper.
Anyways my Bose HU skips too much, so I'm changing it out to Pioneer DEH-80MP.

Be careful with Car Toys, they short changed me on used wiring and basically screwed my 03 Z up. Big PITA, I will never spend one dime in that chain rip off store again.
I kinda like my Bose, not as good as others but definately better than the non-Bose. Sounds pretty good in my Roadster. I admit, BLOSE could have done a lot better!

I used to use Eclispe AVN5435 headunit with Bose speakers. It works. Since audio shop installed it, I don't know what kind but I know its made by Metra. One harness behind headunit is what I needed back that time.
