If you couldn't find your cigarette lighter without help, I sure hope you bought a Navigation System with your Z.

Where is the cigarette lighter in the front of the 04.5s mounted? I hate the one in back and could use one up front to plug my satellite radio into. Is it possible to get some 05 parts and easily modify my 03?

It's right under the cup holder on the passenger side.

Yes, you can add that front panel part to your car if it was omitted at the factory. I have the 03 Touring model, but I added that 04 front panel piece. You will have to fabricate a bracket for the rear of the power socket. It will stay more secure when you have to insert and remove the typical plug ins that use this power source.

Now I'm excited, do you have directions on how to do this? I'm no electrician. I also have an 03 touring. How much do I need to spend?

Well I use my radio in the office, so it would be beneficial if I didn't hardwire it. I could run it off the rechargeable battery but it only lasts 3 hours.

If you have the rear view mirror with the plug and 3 wires on it that is on the back of the miror then you have a permanent place to tap into for your radar detector.

The power to it switches on when you turn the car on so it is perfect for a radar detector.

That is what I did on my 2005.
The detector is mounted just below the mirror so I can see the lights and I have about a 6 inch connector I made to go into the plug on the mirror.

It is that top of the line Passport model with the phone jack plug.

Works great cause I did not touch the cigarette lighter plug so I can easily move the thing to my truck for long drivies.

I find it funny.. 95% drivers use the cigarette lighter as power source and the 5% use it for its original purpose. Why can't car makers make some cars that simply have power outlets?

MOST cars come with more than one - I love my '03 but that was just one of the things that Nissan went cheap on. But I used the mirror wiring for my V1 along with the Z bracket that Mike at motoring sells. If you do that, use the orange wire as the hot as it is a switched power source; the red is hot all the time.
