Sub in corner
A couple quick pics of the enclosure I built for my MTX 8500 series 8510-44 (10" dual 4-ohm voicecoil) sub. I still need to vacuum a bit, re-edge the factory trunk liner where I cut it and do the same to the trunk mat (not shown). This sub is pretty monsterous. It weighs 37lbs and has a mounting depth of 7.5 inches. The enclosure will also accomodate a MTX 9500 or JL10W7. After listening to all three woofers in 2 different shops, I thought the 9500 sounded better than the W7, but wasn't sure if I could accomodate the 9.5 inch mounting depth of the 9500 series. Turns out it will. Maybe I'll upgrade. Enclosure is 1.15 cubic feet (yes it drops below the floor level and replaces the styrofoam block while retaining the spare tire, which was adjusted a bit from its stock position), which is just a hair over 1 cubic foot after subwoofer displacement. It's powered by a Alpine MRD-M1000 with the optional RUX-4280 controller. Sounds nice.

nice work but damn a mtx sub. nothing cheaper available. i mean you dont have to get a jl audio 10w7 but mtx is awful. the rest looks good atleast you can replace the sub for a better one down the road.

Nothing cheaper available? Wow, that's quite the overstatement. That sub retails for $350. Not the most expensive out there, but also certainly not the cheapest (not by a longshot).
Anyhow, money aside it sounded better to me in the same sound room (2 different stores actually) with the same power and source material than a W7, which I also considered. It came as a shock to me since I was pretty gung-ho about the w7 after all its accolades. I've owned MTX and JL Audio (as well as many other high-end brands over the past 9 years). In other words, "I knows what I likes".

retail is retail, im sure you didnt pay retail i hope. yeah jl audio is nice but over priced and that one requires a sealed box as well. i have one in the bmw but mtx was what i had when i was young and poor. i guess it possible that the quality has changed, i mean rockford stuff was good and now sucks so i guess mtx could have gotten better.
all said it looks nice, its just that mtx shows so brightly. i was thinking infinity or alpine as mid line. however i see kicker is quite popular on this forum and i wouldnt put a free one in my car.

As to quality and which brands are good, while some things never change, most things do. With things sound related, best to let your ears do the "thinking" for you.
