Default Spare Tire Sub Box

I finally had some free time and designed a sub box for the spare tire compartment. Here are a couple pics....I will post some more when I get it carpeted tomorrow and some pics of the 1-12" version.

The box for 2-10" subs will have approx. 1.48 cu airspace with 7 5/8" mounting depth. The 1-12" version will have approx 1.30 cu ft with 7 5/8" mounting depth. The box is fastened down with the factory tire bolt and a piece pvc as a collar to seal the box....this worked out great.

You have to cut two small corners out of the foam that surrounds the spare tire..it took me about 2 minutes. Also, you have to cut your trunk mat around the raised panel. I could also cut a new matching trunk mat with the carpet I cover the box in so the factory mat does'nt have to be cut up.

Does anyone know if the ZR spare tire compartment is the same as the coupe? I was hoping this would be an option for the Roadster.

thanks in advance

doesnt seem deep enough for a bad *** sub. jl audio 12w7 has 9.5 inches from the under side of the mount. guess it could fit a 12w6.

however the Z doesnt need too much thump its a small car. i think 2 -10" would look the best overall. two 10w6 with a jl audio 1000/1 mono block amp would kill that car.

so i ditto the question, coupe tire area and roadster tire area, are they the same or not?

between the pods and this sub box, im thinking ill have to upgrade my stereo except use the jl audio cleansweep product so i can keep the HU. although i nice dvd touch screen would be bad ***.

i really like the pods and if this works in a roadster and they are forsale, im going to upgrade for sure.

Yes, I will be selling them starting this week. I will start listing them on eBay in a couple of days. This is the first one I've made and its up for grabs. I'm going to be selling them for $125. If anyone's interested in the first one I'll throw in shipping.....I'm anxious to get some feedback.

Hopefully tomorrow I will have the 2-10" box carpeted and post some more pics.

thanks mike

I was going to redo My system with a box similar to that, for 125 I'll just buy one of those!!!
Anyway you can make a single 12" version but without such a big hump the sub is mounted too? my sub only needs 6.75" depth, would love it if you could make a sunk in baffle.
Any chance?

The box without any spacers (totally flush with the factory carpet) has 5.25" of depth. On this box I basically added three spacers to give it a hair over 7.5" of depth. I can add or subtract spacers on the box as needed.. + or - .75" per spacer. I can do a counter sunk panel but it will make the mounting area even larger.

thanks mike

This is why I chose the MBQ RE302 with 5.5" depth. The dual carpets in the rear will add about 1/4" or so to flush..so flush would need to be spaced up a little bit.

sounds ridiculous! i wasn't expecting it to sound the way it does to be honest. hits very hard, and gets really low as well....surprising for a sealed enclosure. basically we have the same box

Had to post mine again too. Sound is incredible. I'm running a 12" MBQUART. I had a 10" strut box before..no comparison..The tire well mount does not trap bass. Mine is 6" deep.. I added a 1/2" MDF ring to the top to sit near flush with the floor. Fiberglass bottom and sides to add depth.
