Try the audio forums but to change the entire system and do it right would be a new head unit, 2 pairs of component speakers, a sub and at least 1 amp, most likely 2. So depending on how much you spend on each of those and depending on who installs, you will get your price. I don't see it being any less than 2,000 to replace everything with decent stuff, that price could easily be 3-4 times that depending on how high end you want to go and how elaborate.

Here's what I did when I replaced my system:

You will need to spend around $1500 if you have a stero shop do the installation.

Wow, you guys do realize that you don't have to replace everything to upgrade the sound.

The thing that will have the LARGEST impact is the speakers. You can upgrade just them and there will be a big increase in SQ.

Now, if you're going with components, I'd recommend keeping the stock HU and use a LOC and send that signal to a 4 or 5 channel amp depending on if you want a sub or not. I personally would just put in an amp and upgrade the speakers. I've found that customers are completely satisfied with this even when they came in thinking they NEEDED a sub.

Well, Changing the speakers will help But you will need a good source unit to start with a good signal. If you amplify the stock deck with a LOC you will be amplifying a distorted signal and making it louder, Not necessarily cleaner.

There are devices you can get like the JL Audio Clean Sweep to DE-Equilize the signal from the stock deck and bringing it to a flat level. At the same time Clean Sweep will give you a Boosted Voltage output of up to 7 Volt Pre-Outs. However in a car like the 350Z It is so easy to change the head unit I would recommend spending the money on an aftermarket Quality deck and then Speakers and then Amp and Subs.

Having done over 50 350Z Stereo system installs I would say using a Line level adapter on the Z would be a waste since you are trying to build a Quality system.

If you just want to make everything louder, Yes LOC will work and make it louder But your end result with the same equipment will be Much better with an aftermarket Quality Head Unit.

If you had a vehicle like the G35 or Q45 or Similar integrated stereo system I would recommend the Clean Sweep or one of the Audio Control Pieces to add amplifiers. Ofcourse if there is a will and the talent these vehicles can be outfitted with aftermarket source units as well.

Hope this helps.

Well, I was thinking about possible theft also. Only a handful of aftermarket HUs look like OEM, a few would by Nakamichi and clarion. Most others are very flashy and draw alot of attention. Attention is definately something that you do NOT want to draw to yourself.

About the signal being distorted. Unless the Pre-amp/amp is COMPLETE crap then the signal should be just fine. The MAIN problem with OEM HUs is that they have very little power output. This is not a problem if you send that signal to an amplifier.

Most OEM head units are Equilized from the factory to make those Cheap OEM speakers sound better, It is not so much about ghow much power is in the head unit, It is how distorted that output is which will be amplified.

Yeah, they are equalized a bit, especially Bose, but I haven't run into one that was I couldn't stand to live with.

I mean, quality isn't the best, of course, but you could do much worse by going with a really cheap HU.

I agree that is why it is key to start with a quality Head unit.

Hey Nazar can you tell me if you guys have done a g35 with a kenwood 7017? The trim kit that came with the unit is too big. The one that is used in the 350z is too big. Any ideas? Thanks!!!
