Default Factory head unit

Can you use the factory head unit-the one without the tape deck added on-with a sub? If so, how? <center>

5Zigens 3 peice hyper silver 20's! I like the look of the factory stereo. I'm gonna put a 10 inch sub under the strut bar. So I need to know if I could hook up the factory head unit with an amp? Does the stereo has to have subwoofer preamp outputs?

Yes, this is possible. The radio does not come with preamp RCA's, well at least mine didn't(03' Bose HU). You can use an inline converter to change the output leads to RCA's. Different people will give you different outcomes of this. I personally tried it and couldn't get my system to stop making this horrible whinning noise. I had everything wired and grounded properly, it just didn;t sound clear. Finally after replacing the HU, everything sounded wonderful.
