Default Official Zenrin 6.4 DVD Nav update thread

OK, like many of you I have got the card from Zenrin for the $190 6.4 upgrade. I have an 03 touring with the original 6.1 DVD. Has anyone upgraded yet? Is it worth it?

I ordered one. I'm sure alot has been updated since v6.2 that came with the car.

Good news is I made a backup of a 6.2 map disc on a dual layer dvd r+ which works flawlessly. So assuming I can do the same for v6.4 this baby is going up on eBay

I have to eject the disk and see which version I have. I assume it's 6.2, since I recall buying an update after I bought my car. I assume this is just another data update and does not include the improved GUI that comes with the 7.x version of the software.

I'm ordering mine this week (as soon as my bonus hits my bank account). If I remember, I'll put a review on improvements over the '03 disk after I get it.

DvD Decrypter (v3.540).

The key is to use a drive (I used a Plextor PX-716A) that supports changing the Book Type (bitsetting) for DvD+R DL media to DvD-ROM so that the navigation system will see the burned disc as a DvD-ROM (as is the original disc) and not a burned DvD+R DL disc.

DvD Decrypter allows you to change the Book Type for DvD+R and DvD+R DL media to DvD-ROM on drives that support the changing of media book type (bitsetting).-

Tools==>Drive==>Change Book Type

After changing the Book Type for the media, I first created an image file (.iso) of the Map DvD with DvD Decrypter using the ISO read mode. Then burned the image file onto a DvD+R DL disc using the ISO write mode.

Works as well as the original

You can also do the same thing using Nero v6 or greater.-

Recorder Tab==>Choose Recorder (select your dual layer burner dvd burner) ==> Options tab and select DVD-ROM from the Book Type drop down.

You basically only need to have a dual layer burner that supports bitsetting and a blank dvd +r dual layer disc.

Then you create the image and burn it. No other tools are required since the disc doesn't have any copy protection scheme ( like DvD movies).

I'll update how it goes once I get the v6.4 update.

I've picked up a 10 disc spindle on sale at Best Buy for $19.99. Regularly go for $30 - $50 per spindle.

So if this works cant you ripp and burn a movie using the same process to make the DVD-ROM read the movie in your car? Just a thought!

I doubt it, because the DVD drive would not have a DVD video decoder.

Hey guys, I've got 6.1. I would be willing to buy 6.2 or greater from anybody that upgrades to 6.4. Let me know if you guys decide to sell. If you guys look at an 06 Z brochure from Nissan, the GPS layout looks better. I wonder if the 6.4 update will change the look, or is it the whole system?

Nobody wants to try to burn a 6.4 disc and offer it as a "Member Special"? I'd pay...
