No the D1 does not play DVDs. You have to get an extra DVD player to run DVDs..

The D1 has a DVD-ROM but not an MPEG2 decoder. Therefore, it is not possible to play back DVDs. You can connect an external DVD player and that will allow you to watch DVDs on the D1. By hacking the unit you are simply de-activating the unit’s protection against playing back the DVDs while in motion. But at this time, there is absolutely NO way to watch DVDs using the built in DVD-ROM drive.

+1 on that info... i've been trying for the longest to break into it but no luck so far.... i've had the unit for a year already and believe me i ended up getting a dvd player inside the cabinet behind the passenger's seat.
