Default Help With Sirius Starmate Install

I know this topic has practically been beaten to death, but I wanted to see if I could get some input anyway.

I have an '03 coupe and am looking for the best place to mount my Starmate Replay receiver. In the cubby right now, I have the Fahrenheit Monitor for use with my DVD player (well, I almost never use the DVD player).

Is there another good spot besides the cubby? Or should I just take out the monitor/DVD player and install the Starmate there b/c I hardly ever use the DVD player anyway? The receiver will be for use in my home as well, so I want to be able to easily remove it from the car. I appreciate any suggestions.

I just mounted a XM Myfi and was struggling with the location. I searched for brackets with no success. I eventually decided on one of two locations.
1) make your own bracket to slip into the dashboard right below the drivers sider air vent right to the left of the radio. here's a basic diagram of the bracket that can easily be made from some banding metal (Just like the metal bracket manufacturers include with head units):

OR
Use a belkin tune doc bracket. That will allow you to use the cup holder on the dash as a mounting location, but you lose the cup holder.

Please post some pics when it's finished. I'm thinking about doing the same thing.

Are you planning to go with a fixed install or have the ability to open and close (like the sunglass compartment does)?

I know you mentioned cubby alternatives but here are few pics of my Starmate Replay install in the cubby. Pretty much my goal was to make the installation as clean as possible and avoid making it complicated. The following pics were from my camera phone so the quality isn't all that great.

Starmate Replay

Backside of cubby. Drilled four holes to attach receiver bracket to cubby.

Bracket mounted inside of cubby.

Starmate inside cubby. Wires are barely even noticeable.

Antenna fits perfectly in front of gauges.

Antenna hardly noticeable from drivers seat.

Overall the install took me about 2 hours to do and most of that time was figuring out how to remove the center console. LOL. Anyhow some of the functionality of the cubby is still retained just in case I want put a few things in there when the car is parked or whatever.

nice job....i have the stock nav so i can't put it there but if i didn't have that i would have put it in the cubby as well....your antenna looks alot bigger than mine....how long ago did you purchase that starmate? just wondering if they changed it perhaps.

i was gonna do it myself that same way using the bracket they supplied and mounting it in the sunglass holder case but couldn't figure out how to remove the darn thing....lol

Thanks!

Definately not having a nav system and using the provided hardware (bracket and fasteners) made this install easy. The receiver is new and I probably will be getting a slimmer antenna like this one >>

The sweet thing about this install is that everything is centrally located around the center console; Antenna, receiver, and wiring. There is no need to remove any other panels or trim pieces and avoided the headache of routing the wires through the car from antenna (and/or power) to receiver.

hmmm....i wonder why mine is so much smaller....maybe its just the picture? mine is shaped differently too though.....right now i got it mounted on the roof....i know some people hate that but it didn't really bother me....so long as its centered correctly. is your antenna bar always at 3 on the receiver?

95% of the time I get full bars for SAT; TER is usually around half.

Hope this answers your question.
