I like.

The lady is so polite with her navigation

It's a darn good balance of audio, video, and navigation system. I added extra amplifiers to the audio end and the voice navigation and IR remotes to the system which I use when I need to keep my eyes on road. I haven't watched a movie on the 7" screen as I tend to watch them on my 62" 1080p system.

love it. Pretty nice images when playing DVDs. Navi could be easier to control. Well, maybe that's partially my fault because I do not feel like reading the manual that came with it so I am just playing with all types of buttons. Only downside is that I've to swap navi-DVD with my DVDs. That really agitates me. But I'll be installing a DVD changer soon so that problem will be taken cared of.

Yeah swapping music for the navigation DVD would be a pain. I went with a 6-cd disc changer from the git go. It's the Pioneer one and only plays music CDs - no DVD and no MP3. I can't imagine watching DVD movies while driving for one and two, the MP3 file format never sounds as good as the CD audio format anyways.

Which center compartment? The navigation cubby hole is where I stuffed my 7" DVD LCD screen.

Ahh, I see. The Pioneer screen is adjustable for angle in about 5 degree steps. The system remembers where you left it and goes back there. There is also a set back where the screen can pop backwards about 3/4" if you have the room - on the Z you do. Here's the best picture I have of what the angle looks like.

ove trhte years i have tried and msot of the navi units, from pioneer, alpine, kenwood and eclipse.

i think from an overall price/performance perspective, i think the avic units are hte best.

some will complain and nit pick about them, but i think some people just need to realize any thing in this world is about compromises.

is it perfect? no, will it be 100 percent accuarate 100 percent of the time? no (but damn close), and it has a slew of features that is usable both in the navi and the audio realm.

i have had my n1 ever since it came out, and its a lifesaver, espeically since now that i moved to cali i dont know any where to go even with my old outdated discs that dont know some of the newly built roads, i have never gotten lost with this unit in my car.

my biggest gripe with the unit would be the fact that you need to take out hte nav disc each time you want to listen to something, and the memroy can only store one trip.

from a purely nav persepective, i would prefer the D1, as you can leave the nav disc in it own slot forever. but the D1 does not play dvds, so it would require an external one.

I've also got an AVIC-N2 that I'm quite happy with it. I installed it myself a few weeks ago - it replaced an aging JVC headunit.

I've got a few nits to pick, but they're pretty minor:
- The screen is hard to see with my polarized sunglasses
- Unless you do a hardware hack (which involves soldering a connection on the unit (!)), the unit is pretty strict about what you're allowed to do while you're in motion. This is especially a problem if you have the XM NavTraffic add-on - if you click on an accident, you can't see any details about the incident (including the direction of travel!) while you're in motion. After doing the hardware hack, though, I really like NavTraffic!
- The single disc slot is a little annoying - juggling the nav disk with audio cds is a hassle.
- The Pioneer ipod adapter (IB100, I think it is) - sucks really bad. It's incredbly slow and painful to navigate, and while your ipod is connected, you can't select things on the ipod. I end up disconnecting the ipod, selecting what I want, and reconnecting. That's a pain. But the sound quality is excellent.

The XM NavTraffic is the main reason I bought the unit. In a few years, after they have a lot more traffic speed sensors, it will really rock, but now I think I'm a bit of an early adopter. I do think it's already saved me time on a few commutes - the Nav woman comes on and says "In 7 miles, there is slow traffic. Would you like to reroute?" Unforunately, though, she sometimes reroutes me onto a road that isn't flow/incident enabled, which sometimes gets me stuck in worse traffic.

BTW, Pioneer's support seems good so far. My unit came with the v1.1 Nav software. I emailed Pionner asking for the 1.2 update, and UPS dropped it off a few days later. Very nice!

George

Me, personaly i like the Alpine IVA-D310, But reading people reviews Avic-n2 is a good choice .

My current setup is the Alpine IVA-D310, PXA-H701, with The lastest Nav system sorry forgot the # but has the NavTraffic, Alpine amps and Type-X sub. Waiting for the Alpine KCA-100BT HF phone adaptor, and KCA-620M USB mp3 adaptor
