Default Need pics of stock spare tire well - wanna do a hidden set up w/ FULL spare access

does anyone have pics of their stock spare tire well, with and without the spare tire in place?

I wanna see if a custom in floor stealty set up can be done withOUT sacrificing any trunk space, and still giving full access to the spare tire with out removing any part of the system

anyone with pics? Thanks in advance.

I can tell you that there is approx. a 7inch heigth from the floor to the top of the trunk carpet mat. Anything higher will not look stealthy or normal. If you leave the tire in, this will decrease the hieght of the box. You might be able to fit a low powered 10 on top of the tire, using a fiber glass enclosure. Of course the fiberglass would be molded into the spare tire. I have seen it done. If you go to Cardomain.com, under the 350Z section, you'll eventually stumble across a guy who took pictures of him building an enclosure like the one you'd need.

thanks i will check there, i wont be doing the whole drop in spare sub box thing, dont quite a few of those before, the bad thing is that it still requires the sub box to be taken out when you need the spare, i am going to avoid all that.

also, what size is the spare tire and wheel?

found some pics, this should definetly be possible...

this wouldnt be a simple drop in and go install, it would be fairly elaborate custom install with a new false floor of course.

but from the way the pics look, it should definetly be possible.

the goal is, when you open the trunk, you see nothing, just a flat floor with mat, at the most the floor iwll be raised an inch. when you pop off panels, there will be trimed amps, and the spare, and you can just take the sapre straight out without touching anyhting else...

thanks for the help, now i just need to find a Z to do this in lol, its a bet with a friend of mine form the east coast who claims that it cant be done ...

If this is the case, you might wanna look into those pod enclosures that mount to the side walls of the trunk. I believe they are designed for 10's.

As you probably aready know, you'd have to mount the woofer internally using a spacer ring.

Something like this?
Go down to the 6th reply where there will be 3 pics of my sub. I can help you some on dimensions but it's been awile. What was said above is true about your mounting depth. I had to pick out a sub that would fit. Too much mounting depth on the sub and it will be above the false floor!

yeah i saw that we hae done a set up like that before with two solobaric 8s, and it sounded pretty good...but the problem was we had no where left for amps and had to mount then with in view. i am going to try to avoid that all toether and at the same time, add some flash to the whole install

i like your set up! good work

The amps can go in the empty space behind the drivers seat.

Oh, a rhetorical question kind of. Yeah, no matter which model Z you have the factory steel sheet behind the seat for the BOSE sub is a PIA to take out so that space is useable. And the first amp I had in there barely fit. Got any pics of the 8" system handy? Sounds interesting...

hey bud, sure post them if its not too much trouble

i dont have pics of hte 8" subs on the side anymore, that was a coupla years ago...

basically, we copied the contour of hte foam boxes, one piece on top, one on the bottom, spearate it with braces, adn pulled glass aroun dit to form a matching enclosure, and did one s8l5 in each side...it sounded pretty good IMO...but we had to do the amp above the floor between the arch and the seats whcih sorta defeated the point hehe

Not the best but this is what I had available. A couple of them are pics I took off this site for help for me. Hope the owner is not offended. Let me know if you are and I'll edit this to take them out. There is a plastic false floor that goes over the spare then and fits into the lip of the styrofoam pieces on either side. Hope this helps.
