For computer GPS folks: M.S. Mappoint has scalable map font
abz123:
Can you give an update on how you are liking the software (MS Mappoint and Navstar?) I think you were using the trial version of Mappoint - did you end up sticking with it? Tried any others?
I want to go ahead and buy my GPS receiver, and wasn't going to get the Navstar add-on, primarily because of the cost of Mappoint. I'm still hoping to find a less expensive software package.
Aggie: What other receivers have you found? I've seen the Royaltek like abz123 has, and Delorme is going to be coming out with a new USB version of theirs soon. i actually have their serial port one already (free from a friend), but want to go USB.
As always, thanks for your information and input.

This was another one I had found...
Deluo GPS (USB) $100

Haven't really had the need to use it lately so I guess my last review is the most up-to-date...I still have it. I haven't tried any others. I do have Mapsource that came with my Garmin unit...And a copy of delorme (Street usa?)...but the text is too small on theses and maps are not detailed enough for me.
MS mappoint has probably the most detail maps available. I live on a private road and it shows my road.
You have mail Scafremon.

Hmm... I just bought Mappoint so I could use NavStar software, I hope its good!
Im going to get the Rayming TN-200 Receiver. Its $99, WAAS, and looks like its got the same specs as the new Earthmate. Plus, its waterproof, black, and has a magnetic mount. I didnt want the blazing yellow receiver.

I've had my computer installed only a few days, but have checked out DeLorme Streets and trips, Mappoint, and Rand Mcnally. Not real happy with any of them. But one thing is for sure - voice instructions are a must! Since we are using such small screens, and software designed for larger displays, you really have to give the screen a good look to soak in the map, and this is quite dangerous.
I just ordered Navstar to go along with Mappoint.Hopefully this $48 will save me $300 from having to buy CoPilot. :-)

Those who have mappoint and know Visual Basic and active-X can probably make your own Nav interface.
