Replacing Stock stereo - advice needed
I just ordered a Z and I am curious what it will take to replace the stereo.
Is the Z radio a standard depth/size? DIN? Double DIN? 1.5 DIN?
Or is the compartment for the radio shallow and odd-shaped like the opening for the NAV system?
I ordered the performance model so I would be replacing the base stereo if that matters.
I am thinking of a new head unit and new speakers all around. Nothing too extreme, but something decent. Maybe something that will read MP3 CDs!
Thanks in advance for any advice.

The 350Z has a double DIN HU. With the Metra kit you can easily install a single din with a pocket (here's a picture).

That's my single DIN Nakamichi in the stock opening with the Metra kit & pocket. The area for the stock stereo is massive and if you do a search several people have either a Double DIN unit or two units (HU & 6 Disk changer).
I'm still working on my Z, but right now I've got Boston Pro 6.5s installed, the HU and am working on a sub enclosure now.
Good luck...

I was hoping you would say that!
I have seen some nice double din units with AM/FM/CD/MP3/Casette.
On the other hand, having a few more bins might be handly to.
Speaking of Nakamichi, that is the tape deck I have at home (showing my age here). It is the best darn tape deck I have ever heard or owned.
