Default How Many Are Dissatisified With The Bose Premium Sound System?

We are trying to put together a mass petition to send to Nissan and Bose. It would really help to know approximately how many people are dissatisfied with their Bose Stereo. If you would like to get involved in this petition. I'd like to put together a mass e-mail to send to both Bose and Nissan to let them know we want a fix for our Bose Premium Stereo. If you have any suggestions post them here!

Default Very unhappy...

I am in the process of pulling it out, but I am still gathering components and parts for my new install. I will be keeping the factory head unit to keep the stock look though...

haven't even had my Z for 36 hours and it was the very 1st thing I noticed! I've had plenty of Bose systems in prev vehicles and this set-up is by far the worst! The constant up and down, no bass at all when playing CD's, Waaaaaaaaaaaaaay to much bass when the radio is on. "Blose" could not have more of a meaning for this one!

ditto what KJ said. i'm constantly adjusting the damn "bass" - should just call it, the "****" tuner. I'm in for the mass petition.

For CD's the Bose system is not bad, but I have resorted to not listening to the radio at all anymore. I make sure that the last thing I do before I leave for my daily commute is to have a couple cd's for my drive...that will all change soon, once I get my upgrades done. The fun begins this weekend !

Default F'in Audio Pilot...

Blame the adjusment issues on the Audio Pilot technology, and the fact that Bose and Nissan failed to realize that they should have a means of defeating the microphone which controls it.

However, elimination of the main Bose amp (and obviously, replacing it with something better), will defeat the stupid AUdio Pilot technology

Could one just replace the Bose amp with say an Alpine 5 channel amp? without replacing the speakers... and have it actually still work?

Default Yeah....BUT !

I nice amp is not going to make crappy assed speakers sound too much better...and the Bose amp has speaker level (high-level) inputs, where your amp is always going to want line level (low-level) RCA inputs.

I heard of someone getting the amp replaced - you guys and gals may want to check with your Nissan dealer.

Default Audio Pilot TSB...

Yes, if your Z was manufactured before Sept. 27 (I think), you can get the amp replaced for free under the Bose TSB. It won't make it sound any better, but it does fix the level fluctutation problems caused by the Audio Pilot. Alot of people have said that after the fix, the levels are even flatter, and the stereo is even less dynamic than before. The majot problem is that the tone controls on the Head Unit seem to have little effect on the system after this supposed fix...

Default Bose impressions

I'm in. This is not what the top end stereo should sound like.

I have a Touring model built in September right after the fix went in. It sounds like what I would expect from the base model stereo, not great, but good, requiring significant adjustments from "flat" to make it sound good.

One of the posters suggested just changing the amps. My thought is the other way around. Any chance just changing the speakers would materially improve sound? I would do it if I thought it would make things better.

I just don't want to embark on a rip out, redo of the whole system.

Really? Never heard of that here on a rabid Z board?!

Seriously, we know that. My car is late enough in production it already has the new amp. It still has muddy bass, and tweeters that do not image well at all.

My non-premium system in my GTP sounds significantly better, and I've always thought its bass would bottom out if you tried to use it. It is still much cleaner than this "premium" system.

Default Count Me In!

I've been going back and forth with the dealer since OCTOBER 17th. - three months! They keep changing the expected receipt date of the replacement amp.

After all is said and done, I'm fairly sure that I'll be pulling the entire system. I'm holding out for the remote possibility that the solution is acceptable. I just can't come to grips with the fact that we paid for a "PREMIUM" sound system and we're not getting what was represented or what was paid for originally.

I had the amp replaced a while ago and the radio still stinks. The audio compensation problem with the baffled base went away but the quality of the radio is still bad. I enjoy listening to the radio in my Concorde more than the Z. I will only listen to CD's in the Z as the quality, although not great, is not terrible. We definitley did not get our money's worth here.

Default Automobile Mag's Car of the Year

Do you guys know that the "Z" was voted Car of the Year by Automobile Magazine? There may be some "juice" in letting Bose and Nissan know about how this poll, the feedback and the Touring model owners really feel about the "Car of the Year".

This is a GREAT thread and poll.
