How Many Are Dissatisified With The Bose Premium Sound System?

I took delivery on January 7th, although the CD player sound OK radio is awful. Neither CD nor radio sound better then most standard sound system. We have two other cars at home, both with standard sound and both sound way better then the "Premium Sound System" that I have paid premium dollars for.

Thank you for writing the letter. My touring Z was #5428 and I had to take it in for the remanufactured amp. It works much better now, but no matter how I change the bass it stays the same. The radio is tolerable but not of Bose quality.

I owned a car stereo shop in So. Cal for 20 years and have heard my share of bad systems. I purchased my car in Dec., and have been playing with the head unit controls to correct the muddy sound and the lack of clean highs. Nothing really works. I am looking into figuring out a way to replace the amp and speakers without altering the factory interior. If I can come with something that would be bolt in I will post it. Otherwise, keep complaining to Nissan. Absolutely love the rest of the car. I have a 93 Z and the stereo sounds better in it than the new one.

You know what they say...
"No Highs, No Lows...It must be a BOSE !"
This is so true for the Bose in the Z. I tried everything to fix the muddiness, and lack of crisp highs, and no lows, and it was hopeless. I eneded up gutting the car and replacing everything with quality equipment...I doubt that you will stumble on anything to fix the 500Hz to 15kHz frequency output range on that crappy-as*ed Bose/Clarion HU...
See my comprehensive list of components below. I have posted pics in other threads of my install (all self installed). By the way, it sounds 2000x better now with all signs of the Bose GONE !

Honestly..........Nissan or Bose aint gonna do squat............I wrote so many letters and made so many phone calls...no action taken..........even the service dept denies there is a problem.....TSB or no TSB.........but thanx for the group attempt..........someone said the best advice is to rip it out.....I think they are right.Nissan and Bose dropped this one and they are just gonna keep ignoring it......................Anyone have a contact name and address I can ship the crummy Bose system to after I rip it out?
P.S. I just bought a 99 Tahoe so I can listen to FM now and then

I will ship my entire car back to Nissan before I rip my stereo out and ship it to them! I expect them to fix it soon, or I will just sell the D### thing and never buy another Nissan.

I decided not to let the quality of the Bose stereo take away from this great ride. The Z is an amazing car, and after all, the Bose system is still a factory stereo...which historicly, I have always upgraded anyways. No one likes to pay extra for garbage though, but I am not going to let the Bose situation effect my opinion of the car as a whole, even if this never gets resolved at all.
By the way, I just finished my J.D. Power and Associates review of the Z, and I gave the car great marks for just about everything and a 1 (unacceptable) for the overall stereo. I do feel that surveys like this will make Nissan open their eyes, and make them consider what their customers are looking for in the future.

Can you keep the head unit and loose the AMP and Speakers? The in-dash 6 disc is the only selling point to me. I would like to trash the amp and the speakers and do a swap out...
Please advise..
Thanks!

See my threads from the past concerning the issues with the factory head unit. Here is one example:
https://my350z.com/forum/audio-and-video/18330-that-bose-head-unit-really-suxx.html
If you do a search for my name, you will find others pertaining to this exact question. However, upgrading amps and speakers will only lead you to find out that the head unit is the weakest link remaining and the system, and $10k worth of new speakers and amps won't make that crummy head unit sound much better. The dynamic range is poor and s/n ratio suxx once you get a couple amps hooked up. Don't get me wrong, it will sound much better, but you still won't be getting the ideal investment out of your equipment upgrades.

Can you please list what you have spent in total to replace the Blose system, includying speakers, amp and head unit. Also are you replacing the system yourself, if so how difficult is it to replace the head unit and speakers?

I just received a phone call from the Z specialist at Nissan. He stated that the BOSE performed to the specifications that Nissan gave BOSE. He said that no further action was in the works for any correction of modification other than the TSB for the roaming bass amps...... The BOSE in my Acura MDX sounds much clearer at lower volumes and it has almost 100 watts less... I guess Honda has higher standards for their BOSE.....
I am continuing with my contacts with BOSE and will update when I get another response from them.
On a side note... feathered tires were replaced yesterday.....
On another side note..... Greased Windows... TSB is promised to be out in the next (8) eight weeks... Yes...8 weeks........ I guess it is a bit more serious than just wiping excess grease off of a roller....

I just called Nissan because I was inquiring about a rental car deal due to me hitting a big dog last night. While I had them on the phone, I asked if there is a resolution for the Bose problem yet because I have a case file on file with them. The rep I spoke to tired to deny there is a problem, and suggested that I have the dealer look at the stereo. I attempted to explained to her that I already have and mentioned this forum, to no avail. I am so pissed off at Nissan's lack of response! I am also so pissed that I hit a big Chow last night and damaged the underneath of my car and front spoiler that I am getting my damaged fixed and selling this car. I will never purchase a Nissan product again because of they way they are denying this problem. Plus, I did not think my car would fall apart from hitting a dog doing 40 mph! Screw Nissan! I am buying a Chevy truck that can hit a dog and still keep ticking, plus it will have a better stereo in it.

I can't believe all these so called Z car fans that want to sell their car because they don't like their oem radio. Give me a break! Drive the car!!! it is awesome!! Maybe you crybabys should buy Chevy Trucks.
Like I have stated before, I am glad I bought my Z before I found this website full of Z haters. Otherwise, I would have taken this seriously and bought something else.
