Thumbs up High End Hard Drive

Anyone know a good website with a large selection of "High End" Hard Drives/MP3 players? The MP3 jukebox type. I would love to put a removeable 40+ gig hard drive under the seat. Thanks for any help!

I would be interested in opinions as well. Also, Kenwood has the music keg but only up to 20 gigs. I'm waiting a while but will go with the SSI car jukebox.

Maybe a 6 disk MP3 player is the way to go? The hard drive thing really sounds easy though.

Default MP3 Hard Disk Player

Allegedly the best mp3 player is the iPod, but it is VERY expensive compared to the competition.

I got the Archos Jukebox for Christmas and I love it. I got the 15 GB model and will hold about 250 CDs with good sound quality. (You can record at different quality levels so your mileage may vary). You can buy the archos with higher sotrage.

Some guys hot rod them. Since it uses a standard laptop hard drive you can upgrade to any size you want.

Check em out. I think they are under $300 these days.

Problem with these is I am looking for one that can be hard wired or RCA into the existing stereo. I dont want to use batteries or a lighter adapter. I also want to place it under the seat (or another conspicuious place, and use the remote etc.

Thumbs up

The Ipod is definitely worth the money, IMHO. I've got the 20GB model with 2,900 songs on it so far. Got room for another 1,100 at 160 Kbps.
If you rip to MP3 at 128 Kbps you can fit over 5200 songs, or 520 CD's onto it. (http://www.apple.com/ipod/)

I'm planning on modding my empty NAV "hole" with a slide in power dock and 1/4" RCA hookup to the stereo.
Plug n' Play at its finest while maintaining the portability.

The thing is the size of a deck of cards!

Default Connecting it

The Archos came with an adapter to go from the earphone output to RCA jacks. It can also be powered off of a 12V adapter.

They also make a corded remote for it. 8*)

Just trying to help.

You can get the same gear AndyB was talking about to hook it.
Monster sells the cables, and several companies make the cigarette lighter chargers.
Try http://ipodlounge.com

I'm planning to make my own system that incorporates the cables and the power behind the dash, maybe put a little brushed aluminum trim around it.

I'll post some pics when its finished. But I won't be for a while...

ScottC,

I just found this site.
http://www.carplayer.com/2003
I think the product is new and looks great. Just another choice. I'm leaning towards this if I can confirm its as good as it seems.

well did you guys see the new neuros mp3 player? it'lll have both hard drive and flash memories. The best part of this thing is that it can brocast your mp3 on any fm stereo, and it also can record and identify songs from fm. the price is cheaper than the ipod. 400 bucks for the 20 G. and 250 for the one with 128 flash. both of them have the same control unit, but different memory. you can always upgrade with a 20 G dish.
