Of course it is possible. Is it worth it NO. Save hundreds if not thousands of dollars and put a aftermarket one in.

I've heard the Z's sold w/o Nav don't have some of the wiring required harnesses. An educated guess would be approx $600 usd to install. Youre worts enemy is going to be the man hours involved. Again educated guess would be 15 man hours to install. Just my 2c

For the money that you would spend on the unit and then the labor, there are a lot of aftermarket units that look and function better.

I know that Aftermarket can give me better features and is cheaper....but if I were so inclined to buy a used OEM navi unit, can it really be installed? How hard is it to change the harness?

well i was interested in doing this until my dealership told me i would have to take off the whole dash to replace the wiring harness that needs to be replaced, the harness alone was close 500.00 dollars at cost and their manual said like 18hrs to replace, this is like a year ago so dont quote me on it.

lets just say hypothetically, I aquire a nav unit down the road, then buy a 500$ harness. Im say $1000-1100 down. Pull apart the car, and re install the new harness. Then I am at a little over $1000, for a $2000 option. Im sure it is not simple to install a new wiring harness throughout the car, but I am very OEM+. Can this be done???

You also have to buy the navigation DvD-Rom which goes behind the drivers seat that goes for $900. Then wire that to the headunit in the dash. So basically, you would have to tear the whole interior of the car apart, then buy a navigation update DvD which goes for $200. Even if you were to install everything yourself, I highly doubt you would be able to do it for less than the $2,000 factory option. Aftermarket is the only resonable option if you don't have the factory navigation.

well of course. Touring Z, with bose....Re-wire the navi wiring harness throughout, buy the plastic console piece for the nav, nav unit, dvd rom unit, run gps antenna under dash. To most of you guys this is a pain, and not worth the effort. But the question is, CAN IT BE DONE?? so many members love to jump to the conclusion that it is impossible, and just say "no it wont work".

Ok here it is, straight out. Yes it can be done. I think I saw someone do it before. The reason why they all jump out to that conclusion is because the nav will end up costing a lot more than a aftermarket one. And considering how an aftermarket one works so much better than the laggy stock one, it seems kind of unreasonable to go through all that effort to put something that isnt even that great on. The parts to do this can be salvaged for a pretty cheap price. The only problem is labor that will kill you.

Yea sure, you could ride a bicycle from New York to L.A. and go through alot of unnecessary trouble. Or, if you're like most people and not trying to be different, you would just wind up driving or catching a plane and get to your destination with alot less headaches. Good luck
