Default V1 Sensor Locations

I am wondering if it is possible to install sensors for the V1 in the bumper or on the rear somehow like people do with the Passport. I currently have the "Stealth Install" with the hidden display mounted on the rear view mirror. I have the main unit mounted on the headliner facing out the rear window, but I would like to get it out of there. I am also sure that the rear tinted window is reducing its accuracy. Any other tips to get this thing to "see" better?

Thanks.

i have seen installs where they mounted the V1 somewhere near the front bumper, but i don't think that'll improve your rear sensitivity lol

i don't think it's physically possible to disassemble the sensors from the V1 since those radar antenna's are soldered directly to the main board of the V1

You are correct - I just called Valentine One and asked them directly. The unit is self-contained, and they don't sell any additional sensors. Oh well.

One V1 could go in the grill (with thermal shield from radiator) and one in a corner hatch vent with remote displays/controls. Clean the smashed bugs periodically.

so what you're saying is run 2 whole V1 radars? seems like a whole lotta cost for not much benefit.

sundevil, how is your radar reception both forward and backward with the V1 near the rear glass?? i've been thinking of doing something similar with my G35 since i'm getting a V1 mirror display.

Turning the rear mounted V1 detector around leverages its largest sensor to improve rear coverage. I'd rather fund Genius Mike Valentine's R&D Team than insurance companies.

Some of the radar detector shoot-outs have played with the location of the detector and IIRC the visor is the best location. If you drive in Kansas I suppose it doesn't matter but where there are hills a higher location will pick up stray radiation prior to dash board or grill mounting. If you're getting hit point blank any place is as good as another. There are a number of states which have outlawed detectors and that sux.

Default Valentine One

I have my Valentine One mounted the same as in this picture accessed from the link below, and from this thread. It works pretty well, though I've been busted a few times because of a delayed response. I just have a feeling it could work better...but the feeling isn't strong enough to warrant the purchase of two more radar detectors. Though I am currently serving a 6 month license suspension so I need all the protection I can get!

Unfortunately your experience, and other posts imply just one V1 stealth mounted is sub optimal. Since you are on the button you should put a spacer under the gas pedal!

Yikes. Does the suspension allow you to drive to and from work at least?

Nope - not *supposed to be driving at all*

As far as the V1 install is concerned, I don't think my install is really bad necessarily - if I bought a new one I would probably install the same way. I just would like it to be as strong as possible.

As Paul350Z explained, radar detection is better near the visor than 3' lower behind the grill. However Lidar detection is best near the front plate. If you don't have a license then 3.5 V1s is a bargain!
