Default speaker wires to doors

I will be putting 90rms into door speakers but don't plan to really make them run that loud...

do I really need to re-wire the door speakers... what do I look for to know that it must be re-wired...

what are downfalls of using the stock wiring...

this is for personal pleasure listening only and not competition

thanks

the downfall to using stock wiring is that they may not be equiment to handle the power, or, they may induce noise...

not that it definetly iwll happen, but i prefer to run new speaker wires into doors on each install i do that involves a power amplifier.

nowadays, it takes me about 30 mins to rewire both doors on a Z, its somewhat of a pain for sure, but to me, its worth it, in my mind i know the difference

If you look at those tiny wires in the harness going to the doors I think you will realize that running new wires is worthwhile. I have a friend who had two "professional installs" and his system ( 3K+ ) sounded terrible. Neither install ran new wiring to doors, dramatic improvement when this was finally done. I wouldn't plan on 30 minutes for your first do it your self on this job!

Getting rid of the stock speakers, amplifiers, and headend will get you 99% of the way there. The wires are the least of your worries when it comes to the stock system. I changed mine out and it is a bit of an effort but not required.

I swapped the wires out on my doors. I thought it was the hardest part of thee whole install. It took me about 1 1/2 per door. Granted this was the only Z I have worked on.

Here are a couple pics.

im in the same boat, my question is i'll be using monster wire , or something else if someone can recommend something better from the amp to the new speakers but what about from the head unit to the amp does it have to be the same gauge?

You will most likley have RCA cables going from the head unit to the amp. I used 14 guage from the amp to the doors. It's a little bigger than needed but it never hurts to have bigger wire in case you want to go to a more powerful setup in the future.

those are small crossovers... which brand is it...

any idea what gauge wire the stock wiring is made of?

still undecided on what to do... but I'll probably end up in the end putting new wires in...

looks like infnities...

guys, if you honestly think the brand of sepaker wires makes a noticable difference in sound...uh...i dont know what to say..

use decent quality speaker wire of the correct guage and you will be fine I see a lot of people pay through the nose for brand name stuff, or twisted pair stuff, when they are just doinga straight foward install, and i really cringe to think what that money could have gotten instead

so if I re-wire... is 16g good enough... I only have 80w per speaker and I'll never really crank it up... for an SQ guy than SPL

thanks

16 guage is more than big enough for 80w.
