the question is do YOU really need one. Music is about preferance man, so if you don't want one don't get one.

need? no, but then again, you dont even NEED speakrs or a headunit

but to get the full specturm of the sound, yes, a sub is needed...many thing a sub is just for "bumping", thats not true, a stereo system should be able to replicate the entire sound spectrum, not leave everthing sub 80hz or so blank, that owuld sound very dry and gutless...

this applies to all genres of music...

No.

Most good 6.5" speakers will go below 80 Hz and much below 40 hertz is masked/covered with road roar at speed. For a better sound, yes of course.

If you want to get down and groove with the homies you are going to have to get a couple of boom-boom boxes.

kabs, like i said, its not about thumping, its about hearing the entire spectrum of the music...

wtih any other expereinces, as a human being, you want the full spectrum, would you like to drive your car with out first gear always? can you drive it with only 2nd thru 6th?: of course, but would you enjoy it as much

if your goal is a well blanaced sound system, i strong recommend going wtih at least a small sub, a small well built 8 in the right enclosure off of 150 watts will do wonders for your music

I would ditch the back speakers, bridge the 2 back channels and add an 8 or 10. Then use your gain adjustments to dial in the amount of bass you want.

Just spend the money on a nice set of components, and make sure the mids are sealed up. This is plenty for those who dont necessarily need the bass, and like to keep their trunks free.

"i just need loud clear music" was the request and once you start driving the mids hard you will either have a muddy midrange or little bass.

He could certainly start without a sub and see if he likes it, there is no harm in that.

As for trunk space, it is all relative, there is no need to take up that much trunk space to add a little bass.

Or you can go for a stock location box and take up no trunk space.

What about running some 6.5" free-airs in the rear speaker locations...would provide support for the mid-low freq.

And seal the front door enclosure completely so the fronts can produce tighter bass.

I have focals 6.5" components in the doors and focal 2-ways in the rear...currently I'm running with a base-tube, which is very good if you're looking just got good clean bass....but I have an MTX 10" sub that I want to put in..I want it to go under the bar, but I don't want the entire space covered up cuz I need to slide my golf drivers diagonal in my trunk, and my golf bag is already taking up the majority of my trunk...any suggestion anyone?

It's a Polk 10" GNX104 powered by a Hiphonics Zues amp. It sounds tight and clean and for the amount of space I had to sacrifice, I think it does very well.
