Viper alarm
Sorry about the long post, I need help... I had the Viper 5000 installed in my '04 touring roadster and I have to say they did a TERRIBLE job!!! My car has been in the shop 3 times so far and they just can't get it right. They said the first unit they installed was a bad and that there was a recall on all viper 5000 units. Can anyone confirm this? I called Directed today they have to get back to me. Also, I think the shop is really trying to rip me off. When they told me the unit was bad they said they ordered a new one. Yesterday I took it in to install it and when I went to pick it up he said some of the features described online are not available... He said "It's a new model"... BS!!! I did some research online and I think they installed a totally different model. I don't know for sure because I didn't have time to look for the "brain" in the car but the model number of the remote doesn't match the 5000 that's for sure... Since yesterday I got 7 false alarms, the panic button doesn't work, the extra "field disturbance sensor" I got will not arm, the siren and 2 different sensors were mounted under the dash with one zip tie each, now i get rattles from under there... I could go on and on and on...... If anyone has done a viper install in a Z please PM me a have a few specific questions about some features they say cannot be done because of the way the car is designed, I think the guy at the shop is just lazy and doesn't want to take the time to do what I am asking for...
What is wrong with some of these shops??? They call themselves "professional"...
Oh well, thanks for your help.....

Doubt the recall...more likely the Installer smoked it connecting the wrong wires. The false alarms are hopefully from too sensitive motion/radar settings, adjust those lower and recheck. Not diode blocking the BCM shared input triggers will cause problems if the BCM shuts off. What features did they leave out? Zip ties for a ~1lb siren?!

Thanks for your help guys...

Do you know if your shock sensor is built in in the brain or if it is a external unit? And can you adjust the shock sensor on the remote? He said on the "new model" he installed in my car the sensors have to be adjusted by the dealer... Also, when you unlock the car, can you unlock only the driver's door?
Dream724Z:
The features left out are:
- panic button
- Unlocking only driver's door with one press, pax door with 2nd
- Remote adjusting of shock sensor
- Hood pin
- The remote will only show the zone number that triggered it, no icons
- The parking lights will not turn on when the car is unlocked (they sould stay on for 30 sec i think)
- If I open the trunk while the system is armed the stock alarm (horn) will go off (is this normal?)
Dream: My remote looks like this:
It appears to be the remote for the 791XV. I asked Directed customer support if this remote could be used with the 5000 they were going to check and let me know but my guess is the shop installed the wrong system.....

sorry for your troubles... were they an authorized installer from DEI... if not it looks like the guy doesn't know what he's doing... very sloppy work it seems... or they just thought they'd get one over you...
if he is, go back and have them enable everything...
that remote is the 791xv but I'm pretty sure all remotes are interchangeable although the lcd functions may not...
as for the door unlocks it may just be setting up the number of pulses... read the manual on how to adjust it...

Priority door unlocking can be added to an aftermarket alarm, but it has to be wired for it. The typical door locking setup for the Z involves tapping the lock and unlock wires inside the drivers door. In order to get priority door unlocking to work you have to go straight to the BCM and 5 wire the door lock actuators. You will still have to go inside the door though and tap the unlock wire for the OEM disarm function.
It sounds like they switched remotes with a remote that doesn't have all the functions that the original one did. I would definately go back. Tell them that you don't have the features you paid for, and if they can't give you those features to uninstall everything and refund all charges, including labor.

Should be alarm native. They down graded your alarm.
- Remote adjusting of shock sensor
Just a Aux relay on the first stage sensor. That spec'd alarm has 5 channels!
- Hood pin
Lazy Installation
- The remote will only show the zone number that triggered it, no icons
Alarm downgrade.
- The parking lights will not turn on when the car is unlocked (they should stay on for 30 sec i think)
Installer did not wire it to the dome output.
- If I open the trunk while the system is armed the stock alarm (horn) will go off (is this normal?)
They didn't disable the stock alarm. There is no reason to keep the stock alarm piggybacked other than being too lazy to rewire the OEM LEDs.
Hopefully you have these features in the work contract for a refund case. Otherwise just write it off and have it installed at a professional shop. That's the only way you will be happy.

My dome lights stay on when I unlock the car. My remote unlocks both doors when I hit unlock.
Ok quick update I just got off the phone with the shop. The manager is out of town but the guy who worked on my cars said he told me he "upgraded me" from the 5000 to something "better" (he would not give me a model number)... BIG LIE!!! I asked him if he had any solutions to offer to resolve our problem, he said he did nothing wrong and the install is perfect... BS!!!
Directed offered to get their Rep involved, he'll call me so we can work out a plan... Thanks all for your help I'll keep you updated...
Oh yeah and I didn't post the name of the shop, it's Audio Excellence by Wes in Daytona Beach... DON'T GO THERE!!!!!

This definitely sounds like he gave you a better remote with a downgraded alarm, then tried to pass it off as a complete upgrade. AFAIK there wasn't a recall on Viper 5000 units. It gets even fishier when he won't give you a model number for the alarm, then refuses to acknowledge that there's something wrong with the install. At the very least your panic button should work, or else what's the point of having one in the first place? Then you have the non-working LCD zones on your 2-way remote: if they won't display on the remote, then what's the point of having them?
In the absence of a trusting shop endorsement (also ask your local Nissan Dealer), I'd select pro shops which requires a Mobile Installer certification of Masters!

They are an authorized dealer for Viper systems... And I asked around before going there, they have a good reputation, don't ask me how they got it... They are just plain stupid to do something like that, when I had them install the alarm I asked for a quote for a full sound system I was going to drop $4500 in a system but now I'll spend that money at another shop that's for sure... Directed still didn't get back to me... What I want is for them to take everything out now and give me my money back I'll go to another shop I just don't trust these guys at all anymore even if the manager offers a good deal I'm just not interested anymore... It makes me sick to know someone treated my Z like that, I love my car... You just can't trust anyone anymore... Now I feel like I have to be there and watch everytime someone works on it...
I'll keep you guys updated as soon as I know more... Thank you all for the info...

Is this really the shop you took it to....

It looks like it used to be a fast food restaurant. Also I love this little message at the bottom of their "extreme customs" page... "(all installations on this website were performed by installers employed by Audio Excellence By Wes whether current or past)". It seems like maybe they are declining in quality and may be just living off of their past reputation.

The goal is minimizing external mechanical parts that lower reliability.
Priority door unlocks: Although nifty, as KP explained requires extra parts. Granted if you travel areas where this is desirable, carry spare relays.
Hood sensor: With motion/impact sensors this input is redundant, unless you also use it for a hood (high-temp) service light.
Good luck with the second install!
