Sub Sizes
As i look through the installs that some of the members have done, im very impressed but also puzzled. Why is everyone using 8" and 10" subs? Some of the installs could support 12's easliy, do people not put them in because they dont NEED them, or want them, or because it doesn't work out in a 350? What im trying to say is, is there any reason not to put in 12's??
PS how good a re JL speakers compared to ..??... Focal or Boston or MB Quart ??? How good are JL amps? (user opinions).
Thanks

I am using a 10" due to space limitations. I play golf, and I did not want to sacrifice hatch area for a humongous sub enclosure or be forced to get AAA due to having to get rid of the spare for a couple subs (this is stoopid, IMHO). I always preferred 10's b/c of my musical taste. 10's are real punchy, but can go low if you want them to, I think they are the best all around sub size for whatever music you prefer. I never listen to rap, but a good 10 in the proper designed box can make anything hit and sound great.
As far as amps go, I have heard good reviews on the new JL equipment. However, I have always been a big Phoenix Gold fan, and thats why I chose the Phoenix Gold Tantrum 400.4 and Zx600ti for my install.
I do honestly feel that JL W6, W6v2 and w7 series subs are the best you can buy, and I think alot of people will agree totally with me on this point. I chose JL's all the way around in my install, and I have never tried their seperates, so I can't say much about them until I get everyhting installed. I have looked at the drivers, and crossovers, and the CSi series are well designed...
1 thing to remember...the factory location for the sub is a very poor choice. A sub will ALWAYS sound better as you get farther away from it due to the nature of sound. A better bass wave will develop a few feet from the sub, versus directly behind the seat, so any install with subs in the trunk will probably sound a little better...

For me, it's a matter of using some of the very little cargo room to use for other things such as golf clubs, small bags from the mall, etc... Just because it's a fantastic car doesn't mean it's not used for everyday lifestyles as well.
Also, I would venture a guess that most of us aren't into shattering windows at stop lights. It's a matter of having better and cleaner sound than Nissan/Bose has provided us. I'm sure you'll see a tricked out Z with a bunch of 15's and some kooky a$$ paint job sometime soon....

Agree with all coments above.
I've had all range of subs in previous cars, and as my music taste has evolved, or really diversified I find that a good single 10" (or two 8"'s) in a sealed enclosure covers my music listening taste while not taking up a lot of space. This also allows me to run smaller size and power amps which helps in keeping the stock look (I have an MTX amp under each of my seats).
Next week I will be having my stereo shop more permanently install my JL 10W3 in a box designed to fill the void under the rear brace.

I went with a single 10" in a sealed enclosure in the factory location. I've had an 8" enlcosed sub in the trunk of my CIvic before I picked up the Z. I liked the sound of sealed subs. My preference is tight, precise bass as opposed to booming... I went with an Image Dyanmics IDQ 10". Here's a link for some pics https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....threadid=16783 Hope you like. Enjoy...

IDQ makes some good stuff. i personally like 8" woofers for the style of listening. the new Jl audio 8w7's are hitting here in april and i will have at least 2 of them in the car somewhere. my last setup in my old car was a 500/1 running to a w7 12 and this was enough to cause some hearing damage. i wont go back to that again. a whole new setup will be installed in this car.
Hey thanks, i was wanting 12s , but u guys are right, really theres no where to put them. The JLs 10s look impressive, a few of those should satisfy a need to BUMP, lol.

also after hearing both subs on the exact same amp with both enclosures being qtc perfected for both subs the JL sounds better.
yes it would but have you ever heard a one sub setup? a one sub setup has directional bass a two sub setup does not. what i mean is that with only one sub you can hear the position of the sub with 2 you will lose that and not be able to tell where the bass is coming from.
my suggestion would be go with something else. a single 8w6 would probably suit your needs and cost a lot less.
