Default Attention creative minds: In here please

Whassup everyone...

as you know, I'll be embarking on my stereo install starting this weekend. What I'm looking for is some cool ideas for where to place a massive sub, INVERTED/downfiring to show off the magnet.

I've thought of something similar to "nitrouz" box, he has an inverted alpine type-x 12" that looks really good.

I really dont want to go understrut..too played out for me..perhaps something false floor?

Any ideas appreciated, I'm running out of creativity here. I want it to be reasonably show-offy, classy (vinyl) and I don't want there to be any painted fiberglass..

Plexiglass/led/neon lighting ideas welcome...

Thanks, all considerations will be forwarded to my installer.

I had the same plan as you. I even printed out "nitrouz" pics for my installer. We contacted JL and after talking to the tech reps, I wasn't eager to be a "guinnea pig" on the location or being inverted. They (JL reps) recommended against it, so I went another direction. Even though he (nitrouz) had nothing but good comments about his install, I decided to go with understrut. I would still like to hear a sub in his location to see what it sounds like.

Yeah, plus the sub (w7) has a wierd cone where the screws are hidden. The inverted w7 is rare but it has been done many times before.

I was thinking like hex screws, and then putting the baffle on teh box last.

Uhmm...other thoughts:

You think you would hear the "air" of the sub from it? or would you just hear the bass? I dont know if this makes sense, but you know the "pole vent" on the subwoofer...where the magnet is..would taht make an air noise or woudl the bass overpower that?

I'm also curious to how this sounds esp being so much closer to the passengers of the car. Actually, now that I think of it, its barely a one foot difference compared to where the understrut box goes..I just want to show the woofer off you know? I'm just curious how it will sound, considering the bass will be firing down rather than being loaded off the hatch window. Will this setup be louder outside the car too since its closer to the windows (not main concern).

Thanks as always buzzard you're always a help.
Ravi

That was actually one of the concerns from the JL tech guys. They just couldn't see how it would sound good in that location, so close to the user. After I find out that info, I was really bummed. The inverted sub and my ipod mount was the two things I didn't want to budge on. I got one out of two so it's all good. It sounds sooooooo good firing back (knocks my d!ck in the dirt), I've all but forgotten of how I originally wanted it mounted.

I would do a plexi box lit up with neons like Brandons/nissan_fanatic's for some bling factor.

Yeah..in my previous under strut setups, I felt like the intereio of the hatch was rattling, like the plastic around the rear strut tower. It was not pleasing to me, even though the bass was insane..so I was debating these alternative setups.

damn...so lost.

Yeah, his was definitely something I looked into. My installer said I would need minimum 1" thick plexiglass...

where can I source that for cheap?

I really like that look...if I go understrut thats what I want to shoot for. My subs bigger than the 10

Chad used Two Bulk Packs of Dynamat Extreme. I'm golden, no rattles.

The clear and black plexi I used for my amp rack I sourced from a company in Charlotte. I'll have to call Chad to get their name, I can't remember. That's all they do is plexi, whether its signs, custom engraving, etc... Maybe they would know of someone in your area. All I did was give them dimensions for the amp rack, they cut it, I paid for it, and Chad polished and installed it.

Bigger than a 10, I think that throws the under strut out the window. Let me think about, you may have to do a mount in the floor firing into the back glass.

1" thick?

Half inch runs about $24 a square foot for clear acrylic and weighs in at better than three pounds. A 24" x 36" plate half an inch thick is about $110.

One inch thick plastic plate polycarbonate is about $390 a square foot - a 24" x 36" plate would be $1600 (10% quanity discount) and weigh close to 40 pounds.

Damn, plexi is pricey.

I want to false floor it, but I might have to raise teh floor because the sub's mount depth is so crazy.

if it is a w7 that is 10" or bigger you definitely have to raise the floor to do a false floor. you could still do under the strut bar but have just the magnet sitting under the sb and have the subwoofer extend out. are you trying to keep your trunk useful at all? i'm guessing not?

Well, I do want the trunk to be useable...thats why I'm running into this issue. Either I'll make a box "before" the strut bar, or under it, or invert the sub and have the space from the spare tire area as the box.

at some point ravi, its a big trade off, a 13w7, two pretty decent size amps, and perhaps other stuff is going to be pretty darn hard to keep ALL under the floor unless we raise part of it significantly which was one of the reasons why we were planning for a idmax 12

but we will see forusre
