Since the stock HU is a double din and most aftermarket units are single DIN, what have you guys done with the bottom space? I know there are pockets available but just looking for something cooler than an empty pocket. Most pictures I have seen here are those full screen DVD/Nav like the Alpine IVA-W200.

I use my empty pocket to slide my Ipod there while it's playing, and to put the bluetooth earpiece for my cell-phone.

I put my Oakleys in there - cool enough?

The sunglass holder on the roof has a spare pair up there. I also keep the remote control for my movie screen in there. The nice thing is the unit looks really low key and factory install.

Here is a great idea for your DIN unit from Alpine. A DIN shaped speaker.

Funny you should mention that, this speaker requires the Alpine 5.1 surround sound amp. I have heard this set up already and if you can get over the price tag, it sounds unreal. For 8 to 10 bucks though, you can enjoy your local movie theater's 5.1 surround system from a big comfy chair in front of a big screen. You have to ask yourself, how real do you need Fast and the Furious to sound in your car? This speaker does look sexy in the DIN pocket though. It has my vote, but not my money.......yet!

I'll use the lower din for a din plate with four switches. Nitrous activation, bottle opener, bottle heater, and purge. Couldn't find a shifter that was worth a sh*t that had a button on it. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Im sure if your didnt want to spend the money on the Alpine 5.1 amp, you could bridge the two front speaker channels and power this center channel. Its ghetto and you wouldnt have independant controls, but you would have sound coming out of it for 500 to 900 bux less. Just a low budget thought.

I put a digital EQ underneath the head unit to fill out that extra space, looks really nice when the lights jump to the music.

Thanks for all the suggestions, some cool, some funny. That center DIN shape speaker rates high on the cool factor but low on the budget factor. Keep them coming, very entertaining.

I went Kenwood and put a 5 1/4 in my pocket where the Nav. should be with a six channel to my highs and mids. Im not a fan of the small center channel speakers myself. I know the Kenwood ones aren't nearly loud enough especially when you enable DTS and all your voices come thru it when your watching movies and stuff. Makes the voices soft and the surround disproportionate. And its alot cheaper to do than the Alpine.
And you can get the new D/D from Kenwood's pretty cheap now. And that solves your pocket problem.

Something we have done is made custom dash kits out of plexi, carbon fiber lamite etc and at the bottom put a 350z logo under the radio. Works out quite well and gives you something different
