Default Alpine IVA-W200

What do you guys think of this?

Alpine IVA-W200

http://www.alpine-usa.com/en/product...&lang=en&tab=D

The local installer probably could have sold me any of the 3-4 HUs he had already but suggested to wait for a couple of weeks for this. Seems to have everything. Should look good in the car too.

Does anybody make covers for these type of things to hide them from idiot criminals?

Ken

This is the one I'm getting too, along with the TME-M770S 6.5" Touch-Screen Monitor, the CHA-S634 6-Disk/MP3 Changer, NVE-N872A Navigation, and PXA-H701 processor.

If you could share some picts of your install, that would be great.

Any way to mount a DD HU in the cubby where the NAV unit would have been?

I could use the space where the stock radio is for something else. Maybe gauges.

Doubt it, since I've read that the width of standard [DIN] units does not fit the NAV compartment.

That is the goofiest looking Alpine deck EVER.

I looked through the users manual and tried to find a reason to buy this since I love Alpine... but BLEGHH...

They F'd up on this one... too bad, I guess Eclipse gets me for $1500 this year instead.

I've been waiting for a double din Alpine.... I'll be getting one as soon as it is available... I'm getting rid of my IVA-D300 which I love, for the W200... The only two things I'll be missing is a volume ****, and the amp link... I was thinking about molding the new blackbird portable Navi in the front cubby as well...

I have been waiting since they announced this in December. Can't wait. I've got a credit card with just enough room on it just waiting to be filled.

I know nothing other than the users manual I downloaded from the Alpine site. I actually own and have installed in my 06 the LAST Alpine double din unit they made prior to this one. It has been EXCELLENT, but I'm looking to combine NAV soon so I am looking to sell. Its an in dash 3 disc changer with a huge EQ display. I had it factory refurbished in 2005 and has never let me down. I have an XM Commander in the box I'm looking to sell too while were on the subject.

I wanted this also. But I'm not looking forward to having to spend ANOTHER $1000 on the nav system and then ANOTHER $300 for the Sirius tuner with NAvtraffic. Why can't Alpine make a direct competitor to the Avic-D2 that has built in NAV in a double din. I REALLY like the Eclipse unit with the built in HDD but they don't offer Navtraffic yet. Guess I'll wait a little longer and see what comes out...

You can buy a stand alone nav traffic module but they suck right now. I'm not entirely convinced there will not be other competitors out there that will offer plug/play.

I'm still waiting for the boys at mp3car.com to release a program for the Valentine V1 that would display the location of a radar gun on the nav screen. It will happen some day for sure.

Blackbird looks like a POS. I always look for the manufacturer that has access to the most updated and programmable Navigation software. Thats where the real cost comes from on those GPS units. It costs millions to compile an updated geographical database.

I had that same Alpine unit installed in my 1996 Eclipse GST Spyder. Awesome unit, except that was my second one and they both had the problem of the CD changer getting stuck. I had the model befor that one too.

POS, strong choice of words...I'm glad you judged the Black Bird with out having it or owning it.... My friend has seen and used it... He siad it was an excellent unit.... I trust his opinion... I'm sure it will be good enough for my needs, I really don't need Navi. But outside of NY it can be handy.... It is hard to compare the Black Bird to any other Alpine system, The BB is the first Handheld Navi that intergrates with Alpine Head Units... New idea New concept give it chance to fail.... Alpine has a sick reputation... I think it will be a good unit...

I played with one at a dealer here, and yes I stick with that opinion. When you're talking $800+ "good enough" won't cut it, for a product like that, you have to step up to competitors. So what it has an mp3 player, the Nuvi translates like 10 languages and is handheld. Not to mention the Alpine programming is spotty for this area.
I gave the Treo 600 a chance to fail for $500 for similar needs, and it did quite fail. Lesson learned is to go with programming first, and form/brand second. Otherwise you end up with a pretty "POS".

Youll like the setup
I have the IVA-D310, CHA-S634, NVE-N872A, PXA-H701, SIR-ALP10T.
If you go with this you WILL NEED the KCE-900E between the NVE-N872A and the PXA-H701 or you will not hear the audio from the navigation. This part took about a month to get.

I've never had a problem with the changer, I had a friend that had the Toyota OEM 3 disc changer that had a couple of times and he had to use the rest mechanism on the bottom of the disc slot, never had a problem using that. The amp and EQ are the best I've ever seen.
