Well,
there are a lot of threads about this head unit in particular and stereo stuff in this forum. I would suggest just lurking and reading through the threads in here and finding out what you want. most people have probably already asked what you want to know

I'm just making people aware of this HU. It sounds solid all the way around. I'm happy for the tape player because i will hook my iPod up to the stereo via a car adapter. MD is a great format, but not widespread enough for me to pick that over mp3 playback and a tape player. Hope this helps anyone struggling with the HU issue like i am.

And if I'm going to spend $800 on a deck, it better blow me while I watch a DVD and/or listen to MP3/WM at the same time!!!

You are right about the Japanese market being a bit f'd up. I am facinated with Japan and have done a bunch of research into the culture. I plan on taking a long vacation there in 2005.
Anyways, here is the thing about the Japanese. They NEED to feel like they have products that are only theirs. Which is why the "full" product line never gets released . . . its not meant to. Any company in Japan that makes electronics has products that are "japanese market only."
Its a culture thing.
But oh yeah that is one sweet HU.
