Don't you just hook the ground wire to a constant ground instead of hooking it to the ground where the emergency brake meets... that's how I hooked it on my Panasonic dvd player and it plays during drive, don't know if it's the same for this unit.

No, the Pioneer units (starting with the N2) have an internal gyro lockout. To bypass this, you "simply" solder two pins on the back and place the unit in service mode.

One wrong move with a soldering iron and bye bye $2200 Navi

jim, on the d1 is much easier and safer...

bsaically, there is an empty slot next to the ground wire in the harness, you basically remove one of the other useless wires (like mute), and plug into this slot and then ground it...

done

have done it now to a dozen d1s and d2s with great results

wonder if the Z1 is the same, can you check to see if it has that empty slot next to the ground wire?

I've been searching high and low for someone with a Z1 ... trying to see if it's worth upgrading my HU -- my real need is iPod control. Do you have an iPod connected to yours?

Bummer ... I hear the interface is much improved ... would like to see it or have someone review it before I upgrade. Frankly, other than the iPod Integration, I love my DDX8017. NAV would be nice to have, of course ... but before I buy the Kenwood NAV module, I want to check this out.

Is the D1 able to play DVD videos internally? Or only through an external DVD drive?

Thanks,
Frank

Thumbs up

hey guys,

One of my friends just got the Z1 installed in his Denali because he saw the D1 in my z and liked the functions. The unit is amazing and if your into the ipod, the controls with the ipod adapter are so much better than they were with other units. The Z1 blows everything out of the water from all the features I've seen. Immaculate unit. Wow......that's all I can say.

can anyone with a Z1 confirm if the empty slot on the wiring harness exists and if DVD playback while moving can be done?

Who'd you pick it up through? Are you going to connect the iPod Interface?

i will coinfirm this since i just did one.

there is NO empty slot next to ground

grounding the parking brake wire will NOT bypass the lock out

there is NO hack as of today

the Z1 WILL send video signal from its video output so if you have other monitors in the car, they will play the dvd while moving

you WILL NOT have navi functions while driving due to the lock out
