Default installation costs

i am considering replacing my stock HU with a pioneer avic-d2 and the installing the farenheit T-7000MHR in the cubby. i was wondering (ball park figure of course) how much it would cost to have installed in my car. or, better yet, if any one in the hilton head/savannah/charleston/columbia area would help me install it.

this would be the only thing i would be doing audio wise since i havent settled on what i want from my audio system. i dont need an insane amount of base and i dont want anything too big because i will be taking this car back and forth to school. but i also want an enclosure that looks unique and at least somewhat custom, i.e., not a carpeted box. anyone who has any ideas, go ahead and help a z brother out.

thanks in advance,
james

normally something like that will only run you $75-100 installed.

if you want a unique box none carpeted you could go with vinyl or leather the color of your car or black, and a 10 inch sub. you could also have an enclosure behind your seat hidden if you need the room.

from what i understand (I really dont know crap about electronics, i'm more into mechanical stuff), there is not enough air back there for a decent sub. i could always go for two 8's instead of a single ten.

x 100

You're talking 6-8 hours of labor minimum plus another $140-$150 in hardware to include the box and not installing amplifiers. On my car I changed out all four speakers, pulled the bose amplifiers out, and added 75 sq.ft. of fat mat and that took like 20 hours. Figure $20 for the face plate, $100 for the box, and another $20 for mounting hardware, electrical heat shrink ... just pulling the passenger's seat out and mounting the brains of the AVIC takes better than an hour.

(About 8 hours of that was fat-mat as my poor fingers got tired pushing that stuff in place.)

I'd highly recommend that you by-pass the blose amplifiers and use the Pioneer's built-in amplifiers if you're not going with external ones. The bose amps are crap. I'd also recommend replacing all four bose speakers - or at least the door ones as they are crap too.

i think you may have misunderstood slightly. i was only asking for how much it would be to have the pioneer installed in the stock location and have the farenheit installed in the cubby. sorry for the confusion, but thanks anyways for the response.

Ah, so you're going to run all the wires, mount the AVIC's brain and GPS antenna somewhere, supply the mounting kit, sub-woofer box, and I assume you either have an '03 Z or have the proper '03 cubby and trim piece.

exactly! but at this point i am only thinking about pioneer nav and the farenheit screen being installed. in terms of subs, enclosures, etc., im not exactly sure what kind of setup would best suit me. i would provide the installer with the avic-d2, the 03 cubby (my car is an 04), and the farenhiet screen.

so, how much would it be to install the 2 screens? and is there anything hardware-wise that i'm forgetting that i need to buy?

thanks alot

you should put in a signal amplifiyer if you have 2 screens and that with also give you a switching ability. you will need the cubby, they will have the hardware, and rcas. as long as the installer knows what he is doing it will prolly be around the 200-300$ mark. mayby more, all depends on how good the installer is. dont skimp on install, you def get what you pay for.
