Default Question about cig lighter cables...

In order to power my dvd player, it came with a cig lighter adapter...instead of plugging that in, is it possible to just cut the cable, and splice that into a 12v source?

Most of the Time Yes, As long as there are no electronics in the adapter itself to control voltage/amperage you should be fine.

Yes, you have to have a ground, the Sides of the Plug are the Ground and the Tip is 12v+. Just open the plug up and see which wire goes where.

You want to add a fuse in order to protect it from surges. Napa sells a product called Mini -Add-a-Circuit.-

This allows easy installation of additional circuits without cutting or splicing. Turns one fuse slot into two while providing protection for both circuits. Which is alot better protection than simply splicing into a 12v source.

What is the best way to get at the rear cig. lighter? Do you have to remove the entire rear panel or is there another way?

you can actually pop the rear cig lighter out. just get a flathead and start prying the sides to pop it out.
