valentine one telephone wires
what wires do i use to get power from my rear view mirror. i can figure what wires r what on the telephone cord that i'm using to get power for my valentine one. please help. just need to know witch is witch . thanks.
i know u don't understand what i'm trying to ask u guyz. all i need to know is. on the telephone wire that plugs into the velentine one, i cut it so that i could do a direct installation using the ground and power from the rear view mirror. my question is what wires from the telephone cord am i gonna use? and whats power and whats ground. i will really apriciate if one of u guyz help me with this.. thank you
I wouldn't wire it directly to the mirror. Tuck the wire in the headliner, go down the a-pillar, to the fuse box. Then take two wires, plug one directly into the fuse for the cig. lighter (15 amps) and the other one to the bracket around the fuse box as a ground and viola!

Forget the mirror. Hardwire it. Mount the V1 to the left of the mirror on top of the windshield and stick the wires up into the headboard outta site. Then move the wires (all hidden) underneath the steering wheel and get power down there. You can buy a small piece for like $10 on the Valentine website to make it work. I can't emphasize enough how much better you will like hardwiring your radar than anything else. Just looks so clean ... almost like it came from the factory.

I have two pics of my setup but they are not that good, need some side shots.
To explain what is going on, I wired a phone wire into the rear view cable where it ran down to the mirror. This cable actually goes up the little plastic wire cover and then into the head liner where it turns around and plugs into a small phone cable female/female connector (that I found in one of those travel zip phone cord kits). The connector is 3M taped to the plastic wire cover and has a 4 inch phone cable coming out of it. I ran my detector with suction cups on glass for the first month with this setup until I realized I really wanted the rear view post mount from Mike. Now it hangs solidly below the mirror.
When the radar detector is not in the mount, the cable can be left on top of the mirror and it stays there even when driving. This is a rare occasion though because it's so quick to mount/unmount, I do it every time.
There is no need to do the extra connector for the install, it's just how I happened to install it because I wanted to leave room for experimenting with other mounting possibilities, like a g meter or something.
