Default Speaker and amp thoughts

I was hoping to get some feedback about a Sub and Amp choice.

Looking at getting the Eclipse audio 87101DVC 10" sub

and

the JBL BP600.1 amp to power it.

Any thoughts, critisism, pointers?

In my experience PPI, Phoenix gold and xtant make the best amps ( that are sold in my area I also hear good thigs about zapco) but this is all cost relevant. You should look to spend 400+ for a nice 600 watt amp. Be wary of the cheap ones

What exactly do you want with your sub? SQ? Deep Bass? Tight fast response?

Eclipse subs are really nice and I'd also recommend looking at Image Dynamic & Diamond as well. Also look at the Eclipse 8800 subs. If you want a very small box to save room and a great SQ sub I'll recommend a Boston Pro as well (8 or 10", their 12s are worse then their 10s). Keep in mind that a Boston Pro 10 is more expensive then a Image Dynamic 12 and won't touch it for SPL.

As far as amps go I wouldn't touch a JBL amp. As Del350 said xtant, zapco, PPI, and Pheonix Gold are all great (I've got an xtant amp in my Z and a PPI in my Honda. I also had a Zapco amp in the past as well). I'll throw out JL Audio as well for a cheaper alternative but still a great amp (JLs are really great amps). A/D/S, Soundstream, Orion, & Arc Audio area lso great amps to look at (I've had an ADS & Soundstream amp in the past and loved them).

I'd rather have a great quality 400watt amp powering my sub then an average 600watt amp powering one.

I had a Sound Stream many years ago. I was under the impression that they went out of business, and then sold their name.

Thanks for the input. I am looking more for sound quality and good response than the ability to let the block know I am home.

I will definately look into some different amps then. Just got to looking and maybe you could post oppinion on the Phoenix Gold QX 300.1 400 Watt Mono Block Amp?

I appreciate the feedback.

That amp is a good choice, it will give a great balance between quality and cost efficancy. I've got nothing but good things to say about pg and 400 watts is more than enough for the z(if done properly)

I am in the process of getting a 10" with small enclosure ( to git underneath the rear strut bar). I am deciding on Image Dynamic or Boston. I want musical sub (tight fast response, I don't listen to anything under 40hz, mostly midbass) and not too interested in SPL and low bass.

Which of these sub is better for clean tight bass? thanks
