just got ticket...which radar detector????
I just got a ticket doing 80 on 65 mph zone. (5 freeway right around disney land area has 8 lanes, wide open, no traffic date b4 july 4th). The cop wasn't reasonable. Damn it.
If you happen to drive in this area, watch out for those suckers hiding on the right of the on-ramp
I think I'll get a radar detector, any recommendation?

There are a ton of posts on this. Both the V1 and the 8500 X50 are great choices. They have been rated similarily in tests; however, the V1 does have directional arrows. This allows you to know which direction is coming from but it also comes with extra cost. I myself have the 8500 X50 and it hasn't failed me yet.

I use a Valentine 1 in my ZR and on my 2 motorcycles. It has saved me numerous times. It's a bit more expensive than some other brands, but the arrows alone are worth the difference. If you avoid one speeding ticket, the V1 will have paid for itself.

V1 not only has the directional arrows which is GREAT by the way....but they also allow current owners to update the software for new radar technology on their site for a nominal fee. In other words, as the cops update their radars one is able to update the V1 as well without buying another new detector.

everyone will recomend this one, and it is great, the only reason the v1 is better than a bel rx65 is because it points in the direction of the cop, I went with the Bel to save $100 bucks and i love it!!

I'm tired of these V1 worshippers. I have the Bel Pro RX65 which is just as good, if not better. The only thing it lacks is the directional arrows. If it tells you that you're gettin radarred, you're gonna slow down anyway. No need to see where it's coming from. Also, I heard Bel and Passport are now the same company so RX65 and X50 are basically the same thing.

yep..
There are other factors that made me decide to go with the V1 over the others besides just the arrows, although having them makes it even better.
1) The single control, everything you need to do in one place, no trying to remember what button on top of the unit was city and what was dim, that sort of stuff.
2) Volume level is obvious in the dark by touch and sight by day so you aren't surprised when it alerts and you accidentally turned it all the way up or worse, all the way down without realizing it.
3) The forward arrow is huge, even if you have the volume down, it gets your attention.
4) 1 year warranty included, after that most repairs are $45, the others want another $29 for a 2 year warranty and then I wonder if it can be extended.
5) Upgrades forever for the price of the parts and shipping. With new technology coming out every so often, do you really want to buy another detector for $300?
6) Add ons like the remote display etc. Because it has retained a similar design for so long, there are lots of people doing mods. I can't think of a time I have seen a rear view mirror with a Passport display inside of it. There are also people working on PC software for remote display and since I have a CarPC, it is something I might want to play with.
Just my thoughts
