i dont think a jl w1v2 is that great... i've got a 12" w3v2 and im not that satisfied with it, but maybe it would sound better if i had a HU to tune lows, mids, etc...? it hits decently though.

You can get some better stuff for 300 IMO. Anything below a W3 in JL is getting a lil cheap these days. I love JL audio stuff but their quality is slipping yet their price is not.

you can get that for less than $250 from SonicElectronix.com. I have used them and they are great. Also look at woofersetc.com and onlinecarstereo.com. I have bought things from both of those with no problems also. I blew a sub once and onlinecarstereo had a new one back to me in 4 days when they said it could take 3 weeks.

But I would recommend an Alpine Type R. For a little more money you will have a lot better sub. http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_4281.html
I have 2 10s currently and my sister has 1 12. Mine get 900 watts each and love it and my sister's only gets 420 watts and it is loud as crap.
Here is the perfect amp to power a type R. http://www.hifisoundconnection.com/S...id/0/SFV/30046 It is way underrated (rated at 300watts X 1 at 2 ohms but probably does 500) My sister is using the older version (250watts X 1 but tested at 420 watts) for hers which puts out even less and the setup couldn't be better. Trust me, for less than $300, you can't go wrong with my suggestions

I must disagree with the JL reviews. Just got my JL Audio 12W3v3-2 and that is one beautiful cone - this will be used for my SQ install

Speaker reputation is correlated to the type of HU and Amp driving it.

Your Alpine M450 is 250W @ 4 ohm / 400W @ 2ohm and going with the JL 12w1 your only option is 4ohms?. Maximize your amp's potential and go with Dual4s or Single2 subs.

The W1 is a very solid subwoofer. Since it has been realeased I can tell you this honestly. I have not had one come back. Not one. These things are built like mini tanks. I run them with 400 Watts Each and have never had one fail. The output is very clean and for 100 bucks you cannot go wrong. I know alot of you will start talking about other online brands that will smoke it in output but that is not what the W1 is designed for. It is a nice blend of sq and output. Very well built and desinged subwoofer IMHO

There is a guy selling a 10" type X for like 200 bucks in the classifieds. That would sound good.

Why do you say that?

Type Xs are very decent subs but at nearly half the price and half the power handling the Type Rs perform better. Newer technology means the type R is better than the Type X for most setups
