Default Idiot question, be gentle

Alright as far as audio goes I know next to nothing except that my home stereo is much better than my cars. Currently I have a Pioneer head unit that I will be getting rid of. That leaves me with a few options which I'd like opinions on. My next hu will be DD for sure. I have the non bose audio system so want to know how much the hu plays into the picture of a system. Basically ideally i'd like to go with the old stock hu and upgrade speakers but I dont know if thats a bad thing or even possible to get the most out of the other components of the system. Basically hoping to get a setup that is a higher quality then stock but isnt necessarily a show stopper. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I'm trying to keep the look of the interior close to stock especially in the radio area. Tired of the show interior look. Thanks a lot and sorry for asking what to some may be obviosu questions.

Well.. if you want it to look stock then there's no choice but to use the stock HU. BUT there are a few double DIN HU that look kinda stock. Kenwood has a series DPX-301, DPX-501, DPX-701 that look good and would be much beeter than the stock HU.

IMHO The Alpine IVA-W200 is one of the best double din units out there. We have one in our Navigator and it's great. http://www.alpine-usa.com/en/product...model=IVA-W200

I have the Pioneer Premier 880PRS installed w/ a din cubby and it looks pretty darn stock. The deck is great as far as SQ and features and it just so happens that it blends well with the interior. Check it out. It has brushed aluminum strips on the top and bottom and doesn't have a lot of ugly buttons. Mostly just two dials.
I've done many cars w/ system integrated into stock HU and every one of them I've eventually upgraded the HU and gotten even better sound out of my system. I have a LOC into my wife's Murano's Bose HU and the SQ is decent but in my Z I have a lot more control over the sound.

my apologies, I just noticed you said DD. You might want to look into putting a screen in the cubby and keeping your stock deck where it's at. It can be just a dummy unit to fool theives if you wanted.

Thanks for the replies everyone but i forgot to mention im trying to stay away from the dvd hu's. Just not interested in paying that much for a new hu that i wont use to its full extent. So more so i was wondering what the effect of some of the "lower" dd units a opposed to stock. Such as the one I posted above
