Default Stupid question of the month!

You know they say there is no stupid question, but I got one for you all!

I am very bad at math, so bad that I went through college without taking any math. So here my stupid question.

Which is the largest mounting depth?

a. 6-7/8"
b. 6.5"

Also, does this number mean that this is the actual airspace inside the box and the thickness of the wood has been deducted?

a. internal airspace: 1.95 f^3

The reason I am asking because I can't seam to find any subwoofer enclosures that are going to be big enough in air space (.75 - .85) to fit in my 350 Z. The TC customs box internal airspace: 1.95 f^3. However I think the mounting depth is to short (6.5").

The Zen enclosure box is .67 per side, but that is awfully small and would be lowered than that after subtracting the woofer displacement. So what I am attempting to do is make my own box, just for sh#t and giggles. Hopefully it will come out good and I can be on the part of my required specs (.75 - .85)

If there is anybody in this forum that has attempted and successfully created a dual sub enclosure for two 10’ subs. please gives me your measurements you could send me a picture.

At this point any help would be appreciated. By the way the subs specs are as follows:

Subwoofer Size 10"
Impedance 4 ohms
Dual Voice Coil Yes
Peak Power Handling 1500 watts
RMS Power Handling 500 watts
Woofer Surround HAMR Rubber Surround
Woofer Composition Kevlar Reinforced Pulp
Sealed Box Volume 0.5 - 0.8 cubic ft.
Ported Box Volume 0.6 - 1.3 cubic ft.
Sensitivity 83 dB
Frequency Response 26 - 600 Hz
Xmax (millimeters) 18.2
Top Mount Depth 6-7/8"
Cutout Diameter 9-1/8"

I'm more that glad that you're concerned about the box size but don't be overly concerned at getting a perfect Qtc of 0.707. Prior to buying my Infinity Kappa 10VQ pair and Zenclosure box I ran a dozen popular subwoofers though the Thiel-Small java script to calculate the Qtc. To be honest I've never seen a calculation that takes the volume of the speaker and the mechanicals into concideration - even back 20 years ago when I did these calculations by hand.

Understand that if you miss the ideal volume by a 0.1 cu.ft. or so you'll gain or lose a tiny bit of bass - but not enough to cause distortion and that little bit of a slope is correctable using your tone control, parametric or graphic equalizer. It's normal procedure to add a bit of polyfill or wool to make the box "feel" bigger too which will effect your tune.

As long as you're close you'll be right.
