Sirius / XM Antenna Installs? "Must" Go On The Roof?
I just got a Kenwood cd/dvd player and thinking about Sirius radio. I would have to go with Sirius since that's what Kenwood supports and wondering about the antenna install? I spoke to a few local shops the last two days and they each said "must" go on the roof.
where do you guys with Sirius or XM have your antennas at? is it really a "must" to go on the roof? this is pretty much the deciding factor if I go with it not. as corny as it sound I don't want it on the roof regardless of how safe they say it is for the paint etc. After time its going to fade / not match the surrounding areas. plus I think it will just look pretty nasty!
can you guys please post pics of where you antenna is and how you installed? comments on reception and sound quality would be appreciated too! thanks alot

You could probably conceal it more by drilling a small hole on the strut bar cover to put the wire through but too much trouble for that. I take pics later.

maybe a dumb question but I've noticed all of you posting pics so far have mounted it on the passenger side of the strut bar??? any specific reason(s) using the passenger side VS the drivers? or this just on of those weird coincidences?

A lot of the stereo wires go down the side panels of the drivers side of the car.
The passenger side of the car does not have any wires....lots of room to work with. That's probably the main reason for going down the passengers side.
Double sided tape can also be used.

Just a note.....I saw a terk mounted on the roof of a redline this week and it looked AWFUL. You wouldn't think it would be so bad, but it looked like a zit on a blushing teenager. I would definately try the strut bar first.

Sirius
Check out my mod link below and take note. I installed my antenna in the same place as most of the others except I cut out a mounting hole so as to "semi-hide" it.
On my mod page, click on one of the "finished box" photo for a better view.
BTW, the reception is just fine. On my other car, the antenna is mounted on the trunk because the back deck under the rear window of the car interferred with the signal.
