Is the stock stereo any good? As far as clear sound? For Base or higher models?

 

Depends on your personal tastes. Most do not enjoy it as much as aftermarket.

I personally found it so bad that I could not even listen to it. I found that it gave me instant listeners fatigue because the highs were so distorted the sound was shrill and very unpleasant. Ended up putting Infinity Kappa perfect components in the door + eclipse 2 channel amp...that sounded great

first thing i did was replace the stock headunit with an eclipse. this alone improved everything 100%. it was night and day. the stock clarion speakers are decent but the stock headunit does absolutely no justice to them. of course, once you do this, youll be tempted to replaced everything and get a sub too.

 

I have the Bose sytem with the 6-CD changer and its not bad for a stock system. It sounds better than I had expected. My complaints, the stock Bose system has no mid bass which is typical of all Bose systems. The sub bass is strained and a little muddy which is typical of all Bose sytems. The highs are the weakest link of it all. I like a lot of treble but it has to be clear and the highs are really harsh and distorted. The stock system is pretty loud though and if you are not used to having a high-end audio system than you find it completely satisfying. My SO thinks it sounds killer, while I find it severly lacking.

I am upgrading it though next week. I am dropping it off at a good audio shop to apply sound deadning and acoustic foam throughout the car and install all high end Focal components.
