Hey guys,
Looking to get opinions/input here on what are some of the best 12" / 13" subwoofers out there.
Criteria:
1) SQL oriented - oxymoronically speaking ... high-excursion while maintianing good sound quality
2) Price - $400 - $600 max pricing
3) High-power handling ... think ~1kW RMS
So far I have:
1) JL W7
2) Image Dynamics IDMAx
3) Adire Brahma
4) Ascendant Havoc
5) Alpine Type-X
6) JBL GTi
Feel free to add to the list.

SVS TV-12 "Ultra" - driven with +500 watts in a proper sized enclosure this thing has extension down below 12 Hz. There are certainly more expensive woofers but not many will reach this things level of quality.

That's a TC Sounds woofer ... basically a 3HP
TC3000 - for sale at TC Sounds.com ... awesome woofer.
I actually got 5 of these from Tom V back in the day and made some sonotubes with them. Awesome subwoofers, no doubt

Fi aren't really out yet.
I'll wait to see what RE puts out after the change of ownership ... should be interesting. I'm excited about the new XXX (except for the price)
I've never heard a DD subwoofer ... anyone is S. CA wanna demo one for me ?
Also ... the W7 in no way blows any of these away .. hop off that wagon please

my choice out of thsoe would go to the idmax. to me, it sounds a little better, has almost hte same output, needs a smaller enclosure, is easier to mount, and is cheaper than the w7
havent heard the new brahma, but if its like the old ones then that would be up there for me as well
how about one that may not be quite as loud but sounds good and costs a bit less?

Anyone heard a Dynaudio Sub? I myself haven't heard one, but their other speakers aer high quality. I think the RMS is below what you listed, but I wanted to know?
I'm running PPI Pro 12's (Pre-DEI) flat piston series (I think from their 1998 line), which I really like for SQL.

the dyn membrane sound pretty good, but honesly not a huge amount of output...
the pro 12 are great sq subs, but limited by their low xmax...
to me, the protypical low cost, moderate powerhandling, great sq sub is the image dynamics IDQ
but thena gain, we arent talking about these kinds of subs
but...when the next version of IDQs come out, you will be seeing it a lot in my installs gurnateed...if the rumors are true, meaning, xmax around 20mm, EVEN SMALLER box requirements, and the same great sq at a moderate price...drool

Anybody tried DLS subwoofers? I have a few friends in Hong Kong who have these and they rave about them.
